Sports Online Challenges

Date: 26 September 2020

This event is aimed at being as inclusive as possible where we invite pupils, parents and teachers from both schools to embrace the healthy challenge before us in covering as many kilometres as possible from 06:00-16:00 on the 26^th of September 2020.

Whether you walk, shuffle or run, the idea is to get active and contribute to the collective Saints Family as we compete against St David’s whilst boosting our immune systems and improving our mindset via the release of multiple endorphins. We would like to encourage all who accept this challenge to begin training and as the name implies, challenge yourself to go further than you have before.

The basketball family will be extremely happy with the wonderful challenge set for you by Coach Vibes and Coach Fungai.

These kind gentlemen have put their experienced minds together in the hope of attracting as many basketball players as possible to compete as well as better and improve themselves during this time.

Mr Jansen and his team have been creative for the BC cricket family and have come up with the following online fun initiatives for our passionate cricket players.

There are a few opportunities to lose a golf ball or two whilst enjoying some face to face time on the golf course, which should be fun.

Mr Henning has planned an online “Trick-shot league” where boys will compete against St John’s College and KES.

The idea is for golfers from all three schools to film themselves performing a trick-shot on a weekly basis.

The best trick-shot from each school, for that week, will face the best video from each of the other schools head-on via an online voting system.

Students from all three schools will be encouraged to vote for their favourite video. The video with the most votes takes 1^st place and that school wins the week’s “league fixture”.

We will keep track of the scores to determine who will have bragging rights at the end of the season (there might be a small prize up for grabs). Greater detail will be communicated to all players in due course.

Mr Cripwell, has come up with a preseason rowing challenge which contains challenges for both pupils and parents. F

Mr McDougall has developed a water polo online challenge for all those who love the sport.

Spirits are high in the School with Liverpool being crowned Champions. What an amazing team Liverpool have been this season as they look set to continue their dominance over Manchester United for many years to come.

Date: 08 July - 12 August 2020

This Challenge provides all our players the opportunity to improve and compete in this challenge with consistency of effort being rewarded by our coaches. As Sophocles stated “Success is dependent upon effort”, therefore this and other challenges present just such an opportunity.

Do you have what it takes to become an improved player? We look forward to travelling this journey with you. How does it work?

Messrs. van Ginkel, West and Da Graca have identified some conditioning norms and technical skills that are required by players aspiring to be first team material or simply improve their own personal skill set. These are explained in the document above.

Pupils are required to submit videos of themselves by completing the conditioning tests and conducting the technical skills. The physical tests are scored based on a sliding scale. The closer to the norm, the higher the score. The coaches will watch the videos and score the technical skills out of 10. These technical skill videos need to be posted on the group so that the coaches can provide feedback for the entire group to learn from. Conditioning tests can be sent directly to the coaches to evaluate form and check the time or number of repetitions.

There will be a prize for the Perfect Player that is the highest ranked on 12 August 2020.

An online initiative has been launched by the Old School Group to get creative for rugby players who were primed and optimally prepared for the 2020 season yet missed out on impressing Provincial, University and International recruiting scouts.

The concept is based on the successful American Combine system and is intended to provide recognition and competitive opportunities to the many talented players.
