History of Athletics Since 1954
The first interhouse athletics meeting was held in 1954.
The cup for the winning house was donated by the Transvaal Cornish Association.
Athletics honours were awarded for the first time in 1968.
By 1973 ‘every boy, unless medically unfit, trained two afternoons a week for athletics".
In 1982 David Hall broke the 2-minute barrier in the Open 800m event. In 1986 Anthony Diack set a national U14 record of 1.85m in the high jump.
In 1987 the legendary Mr Wally Thompson introduced Highland Games & Boere Sport to the interhouse athletics, including tossing the caber and carrying the log.
