Dear Parent,
Here at BBHS our staff teams, whilst continuing to provide an online learning experience, are working hard on the preparation and planning for the reopening of our school for our young people in August. Careful planning is required to ensure the appropriate measures are put in place to safely welcome staff and pupils back to school and we are focussing on the following key areas:
Health & Safety
The health and safety of all is our number one priority and robust, dynamic risk assessments are in the process of being produced as well as capacity planning to ensure we are adhering to the latest physical distancing advice.
Curriculum Model
We are working on a revised curriculum model and currently ensuring that this is able to be timetabled based on capacity, with a key focus on breadth of curriculum, enabling pupils to continue with the range of subject options they have chosen.
We will update you with further details next week.
Kind regards,
Mrs Karen Hook
We are pleased to see so many young people engaging so positively with their online learning in their new year groups. Remember, please let us know if you are having any technical or connectivity issues by emailing bbhsictsupport@stirlingschools.net or contacting the relevant PT Pupil Support.
Stirling Council has now produced specific guidance for our young people and parents about Google Meet and can be found below. This is a function within the G-suite which enables young people to take part in a video conference lesson. In order for young people to participate, the following opt-in form needs to be completed by a parent if your child is under 12. You can access it by clicking here or through the email that has been sent out.
Please get in touch if you have any questions.
Our uniform supplier shop, LogoXpres, has been closed, following the government advice on clothing shops; however, we're pleased to report that it is now taking online orders. They have posted some videos to help parents measure their son or daughter to make sure that the correct size is ordered. All the information is on their website and the information and order form is below.
As I am sure you will agree, the benefits of a formal school uniform are recognised.
Wearing our school uniform:
plays a vital role in the safety of all our young people by allowing staff to identify visitors to the school.
indicates a sense of pride and identification with the school;
helps pupils form or enhance positive attitudes to school and school work;
protects our young people from the damaging impact of social distinction and ‘competitive’ dressing;
promotes the school’s identity in the community;
assists staff in the task of supervising pupils.
Only formal school shirts (with top buttons) should be purchased for school. Adapting the uniform to reflect current ‘trends’ is strongly discouraged: eg fashion t-shirts, belts and scarves, leggings, trainers, jeans/‘jean like’ trousers with studs, shorts, culottes, ¾ length trousers, blouses, gloves or hats (worn indoors), hooded, leather, denim, parka or ‘zipped’ jackets, inappropriate fashion footwear such as Converse boots or shoes, Doc Martins, Uggs etc.
We are waiting on the forms for Free School Meals/Clothing Grant Application, we’ll send them on as soon as they are available. You may qualify for it if you receive:
Income Support
Income based Job Seekers Allowance
Income related element of Employment and Support Allowance
Child Tax Credit but not Working Tax Credit
Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit Support under Part V1 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
Universal Credit
Council Tax or Housing Benefit
Further information for this will follow.
Please contact your child’s Principal Teacher of Pupil Support if you require any assistance or have any questions.
We have been delighted to see our P7 learners engaging in our Google Classroom over the last few weeks and in particular over the past three days as they have enjoyed different activities on Google Classroom as part of their virtual induction days. If you are interested to see what they have been up to click here to go to our P7 Transition Website. Well done new S1!
Young Scot and Scottish Government have launched a new resource to help young people manage their emotional well-being. Aye Feel is a new dedicated micro-site hosted on young.scot. It supports young people’s mental health and wellbeing with quality-assured information, expert advice, peer content made for young people by young people, signposting to support organisations locally and nationally, alongside tips and practical skills to encourage resilience building and promoting a positive mind-set. Information and links to expert support, video diaries and live Q&As will be shared through YoungScot’s social media channels including via Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube and the site is designed to function fully on mobile phones - this will help ensure we reach young people in the digital spaces where they spend their time. The aim is to help young people to understand that it’s perfectly normal to be dealing with anxiety, fear, uncertainty, anger or sadness during strange and difficult circumstances such as Covid-19, or any other time in their lives. This is an evolving resource and new content will reflect information and support relevant to changing times, transitioning out of lock-down and the uncertainties of what comes next.
Most importantly development of the site in the coming weeks and months will be responsive and led by young people and their needs – therefore there will be opportunities our young people to engage in
shaping Aye Feel going forward.
