About me
I am excited to be teaching PE for a sixth year at St. Gabriel the Archangel! I switched to PE five years ago after being a fourth grade teacher here for 18 years and a fifth grade teacher my first year of teaching. That makes this my 25th year teaching at this wonderful school!
When I am not playing games and sports in PE with students at St. Gabriel, I am likely playing, watching, or coaching sports or games with my own 3 kids or my friends. I especially enjoy coaching my daughter's CYC volleyball team and playing volleyball weekly in a women's league with friends (since 2001)! When I was younger I enjoyed playing on every sports team offered at my grade school St. Dominic Savio. In high school at Cor Jesu I played on the freshman basketball team. And my proudest sports moments happened in college at Truman State University when I played on the women's lacrosse team its inaugural season and won table tennis and ultimate frisbee intramurals! Of course, I am also always happy to be watching and cheering on our St. Louis Cardinals, Blues, and City SC!
I received my Masters of Arts in Education from Truman State University and recently received my physical education certification.
This year I am excited to get students ACTIVE during their PE classes! PE class games and activities will be planned in a way that encourages a healthy, active lifestyle, provides lots of movement and exercise, covers skills and curriculum appropriate for their age level, AND is FUN!

The goal of the physical education program is to promote physical fitness and teach students the value of proper health and eating habits. Focus is placed on exercise, healthy living, and team games. Students work cooperatively and show good sportsmanship while learning the skills, rules, equipment, procedures, scoring, and offensive and defensive strategies for different team sports and lifetime activities (soccer, volleyball, basketball, hockey, kickball, pickleball, etc.).
Students in grades K through 8 participate in the Kids Heart Challenge through the American Heart Association where they learn more about being active and heart healthy.
Fifth graders learn dance through Dancing Classrooms. This program teaches 6 different ballroom dancing styles (Merengue, Foxtrot, Tango, Rumba, Swing, and Waltz) while integrating social-emotional learning in each lesson.
Students in grades 4 through 8 take part in the Cooperative Skills Challenge or Cooperative Fitness Challenge where students work together and use teamwork to complete fitness challenges.
Sixth, seventh, and eighth graders participate in a school-based prevention program called "Refuse to Lose" through PreventEd. This health unit presents factual information on specific drugs (alcohol, tobacco/vaping, marijuana, and prescription drugs) so that students can make good, healthy choices in their own lives.
The physical education program inspires students to live healthy, active lives.
