Data Analytics Team
What we do
Collect, clean, isolate and analyze these sets of data:
Student surveys
Financial data
Event statistics
Find trends in data to better format our events
Create data visualizations
Maintain a master database
why we do it
To more efficiently utilize our budget
To plan events that better fit the interests of Stevens students
To preserve EC's history
Example of an event summary used to display specific data from a glance
OUR FINDINGS
The Data Analytics team concluded that the EC budget could be better allocated to maximize the events preferred by students
During the 2018-2019 academic year, we didn't reach the potential of our budget due to:
Lack of student enthusiasm in both on and off campus events
Misinterpretation of student interest
The data team is creating infographics that display the use of EC budget to better select events
Created a "Success Rating" which is an algorithm that measures the success of every event.
Success Rating
Created by Data Team Founding Member Karen Broytman, the Success Score is an algorithm that combines quantitative data from events to rate their "success". It considers an event's number of tickets, signups, and cancellations, among other metrics. As a result, the algorithm rates each event A-F, with more successful events receiving higher grades.
It is used to:
Determine the relative success of each event in a semester
See how current events compare to past events
Track the performance of our events over time
Determine what kinds of events are favored
