Edge Computing for Smart Home Systems
The implementation of this architecture into the IoT system of smart home devices will allow for a better user experience and more efficient allocation of processing and internet traffic resources.
Edge computing allows closer distance to computing and storage systems and reduces latency and allows sensitive information to be processed at the edge rather than the cloud.
This would benefit people all over the world that use devices such as smart lights, Amazon Alexa, home security systems, smart refrigerators, and more.
This would also benefit those who have low speed local internet systems or have poor access to processing and computing resources locally.
This project would target research on how to optimize smart home systems by implementing edge computing servers to handle the processing power and storage of IoT devices.
We would measure the capabilities of these edge computing systems in contrast to central cloud computing systems.
