11.3 - Senior Design Proposal

The purpose of this device is to help people sleep better by falling asleep faster and reducing the chances of waking up during the night (unless it is necessary).

The device would have the following characteristics and features:

• Ability to connect with smart devices such as smart speakers(e.g. Alexa, Google Home, etc.).

• Ability to connect with smartwatches.

• Mobile App that allows users to customize their preferences.

• Solar-powered and AC-powered.

For the senior design project, we will continue with the following steps:

1. Explore Optimum Somnum and and similar smart home device topics. We will continue to do more research on the technology of smart home devices, and the pros and cons of these applications.

2. Decide whether this project idea will be viable as a senior design project, or find another potential idea. We will compare the Optimum Somnum project with other ideas and see if it is more beneficial to keep this idea, or move on with another one. If we continue to pursue this project, we will follow the Gantt chart previously created.

3. Conceptualize and research a chosen idea and refine it to a realistic design project goal.  This will consist of brainstorming and narrowing down the concepts we develop, as well as finding how to most efficiently target the problem. This step will further help us to refine our goal.

4. Develop the project and form a realistic design plan that we can implement. This will be the beginning of the development phase  where we will begin creating a product that we can implement.

5. Test the product through multiple iterations and optimization. This will consist of repeatedly testing the product, removing any errors, and improving the efficiency of the product. It will also result in multiple prototypes that will be tested and modified continuously.

6. Implement and finalize the product in the form of prototypes, demos, and presentations. This will be the final phase as we approach the final presentation. It will result with a final prototype that can be presented to an audience.
