We are excited to share that we offer a four-week online bootcamp in R. Please check the information below and email shanghai.stern.operations@nyu.edu if you have any questions.
MSDABC students: Please note that the MSDABC program strongly recommends that you start the program with elementary to intermediate proficiency in R. This proficiency is instrumental to your success in the program. This bootcamp is offered to ensure that you can enter the program with the necessary background and skills. All MSDABC students will receive an email during the week of April 29 with next steps to start the bootcamp.
MSOMS/MSMRS/MSQF students: Please note that your program does not require any coding background. If you wish to learn more coding skills, you are encouraged to complete the bootcamp. To opt in to receive next steps about the bootcamp, please sign up here by Sunday, April 28.
Dates: Monday, April 29 – Sunday, May 26 (4 weeks)

Credits: 0 credits; non-graded
Tuition: Free of charge

Online self-paced: Each week (4 weeks total) all students will receive via email approximately 1-2 hours total (8 hours over the 4 weeks) of pre-recorded video tutorials to watch, as well as assignments to complete. You can complete the videos and assignments on your own time each week.

You can also reach out to the instructor throughout the course if you need additional support (contact details will be provided once the course starts).
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I complete this bootcamp?
If you are a MSDABC student without any prior background in R, then the answer is YES, you are required to complete this bootcamp. The bootcamp will prepare you for the program, since multiple courses require the use of R to complete coursework and assignments.
If you are a MSDABC student with some background in R, we still highly recommend that you complete the bootcamp. Some of you may have acquired this proficiency during your undergraduate studies, while others may be currently enrolled in an online course. Regardless, we encourage you to complete the bootcamp. As it is self-paced and ungraded, the design is flexible so that you can complete it on your own time. Plus, it is free, so there is no additional cost for you.
If you are a MSMRS/MSOMS/MSQF student interested in developing some coding skills, we recommend that you complete the bootcamp. R is used in a wide range of industries and job positions, and learning how to use R can help you stand out in the job market.
How do I know if I already have enough proficiency in R?
We put together the attached sample problem set so you can assess your knowledge. If you can easily complete it without reviewing outside material, then you already have sufficient proficiency in R to start the program. With that said, it still can’t hurt to complete the bootcamp to brush up on your skills.
Do you have a syllabus so I can have a better understanding of the topics covered in the bootcamp?
Please see the syllabus for the bootcamp offered in 2024.
