We have been learning about Ancient Art for the last few weeks. Specifically, we have been focusing on Ancient Egypt. Our first project was making mummified cats with cardboard tubes. You may have seen your student rummaging through the house for recycled materials after we discovered we can use every day objects to make unique art :)
Then- we learned about the Scarab Beetle which is also a dung beetle. Yes, that circle (or ball) that this ancient Egyptian insect is holding is indeed dung 🤭. We enjoyed a little laugh together about that gross fact. We used air dry clay to color in the lines on our beetles while focusing on SYMMETRY. We learned that Egyptians loved symmetry in their art long ago. Here are some student examples:
What a fun start to the school year! Here is what we have been working on in TK/K the last couple of weeks:
We learned about the very first drawings ever created by our ancestors-prehistoric art! We read the book The First Drawing.
We practiced drawing woolly mammoths together 😍.
We became cave artists and collaborated to make a huge cave wall drawing.
