Chinese New Year is a festive time to celebrate with family and the STC community! With buzzing invitations to thrilling Chinese New Year activities, the Chinese New Year festivities have been present at every turn of a corner.
Gordon Zhang (13D2) shared, “I'm very excited about CNY, because coming from a traditional Chinese family, whether it is between my relatives or my close family members, I love the atmosphere the festival brings every year.” Terry Liang (10D2) echoed similar thoughts, exclaiming, “During Chinese New Year, our family comes together to celebrate this event. Our celebration mainly involves a large meal shared amongst family members as well as the making of dumplings and watching a yearly TV show relating to CNY. These activities are not only entertaining but also help develop the atmosphere we need for the new year.”
Not only are the corridors filled with chatter about Chinese New Year, but the activities held are also full of joy. Chinese New Year is more than just celebrating, it’s about the enjoyment of the festival and the coming together of families and friends alike. More than ever, our school community is united in the spirit of Chinese New Year.
Finally, our half-term came to a close with our 2024 Chinese New Year assembly. Loud chatter created a festive atmosphere as students gathered around in the hall, anxiously waiting for the show to begin. The acts ranged from spectacular dance routines to captivating singing performances, and even a martial arts demonstration from SJS students; the Chinese New Year festivities had something for everyone to enjoy. The success of the assembly could not have been achieved without the hard work and dedication of the staff from the Chinese Department and the technical team as they worked tirelessly to put on a smooth and enjoyable show for everyone.
Adam Pan (7X2), who performed the song 我爱我的家 said, “I felt nervous at the start because it has been a while since I have been on stage. But after the performance, I wasn’t nervous after all! It felt like it was pretty fun.” Audrey Lam (12X1), who performed a traditional Chinese fan dance shared her experience, “It was challenging as our group needed to choreograph our fan dance and we weren’t that experienced, but we were happy with our final performance. As for nerves, not so much as I frequently perform on stage.”
Overall, this Chinese New Year has left a lasting impression on all of us, having etched unforgettable memories in our minds. As we ring in the Year of the Dragon, we extend our warmest wishes for a Happy Chinese New Year to our STC community and beyond. May the year ahead be filled with prosperity, good fortune, and an abundance of joy for everyone as this unique and incredible atmosphere unites us all in celebration.
