On Monday last week, my grandchildren visited K-A. The children also got to meet "the other Mrs. Scally," my daughter-in-law, Joy. (My grandchildren made a "stop motion" video of The Jesse Tree during Advent which K-A enjoyed watching every day.) Everyone was excited to meet up and work on puzzles together during play time. K-A also celebrated "Cultural Appreciation Week." It was a great learning experience for everyone to hear about different cultures of the children in our classroom. The cultures we discussed went from American, European Asian, African, and Caribbean cultures. The children completed family crests and brought in items from their cultures on Show & Tell Day. Everyone was amazed at the many cultural backgrounds we learned about last week. On Tuesday, Mrs. Grugan taught the children about the history of the pretzel, which originated in Germany and modeled children's arms in prayer. Mr. & Mrs. Hadid shared with us the music of the Beatles (who were from Liverpool, England) during the Musicopia Performance. K-A danced the "Twist" and sang "Here Comes the Sun" using hand motions. We also made crafts on Friday that reflected the Vietnamese culture. The children had a ball creating their "dragons" and "lanterns." During Math we measured weight using a scale finding and weighing items we found in the classroom. It was really a wonderful week! Enjoy the pix!
