Letters we have studied and learned to write so far: m, short a, s, p, t, m, short i, n, c, short o, d, h, short e, f, r, b, l, k, (ck), short u, g, w, v, x, q(u), j, y, & z. (This week we complete the alphabet.) We continue putting these letters together to make new words. I am teaching the children to use their fingers to tap out these new words. Some new words you can practice with your child include the following: kick, cap, map, Pam, Sam, tap, pat, mat, tan, at, am. Some words like pat and cap can be plural "caps" & "pats," "tops" etc. Have fun with it. :) The long vowel rule we are learning this week is 'a,' or 'i', or 'o' silent 'e' at the end of the word. (I.E. cake, bride, note, etc.) Another long vowel we are learning is 'ee' saying e, 'ai' saying a, 'oa' saying o. Here's the rule: Two vowels go walking, the first one does the talking (says it's name), the second one is silent, as in 'feet,' 'brain,' and 'goat.' All of these skills will be covered in First Grade as well.
