Reasons: Sexual Content, LGBTQIA+
This young adult novel, set in 1954, tells the story of a 17-year-old Chinese-American girl who falls in love with another girl. It was challenged at two Florida high schools and accused of being sexually explicit. The review committee voted unanimously to keep the book, saying that it addresses "topics teenagers in 2023 can relate to" (Williams, 2023).
