We invite you to view and interact with the Periodic Table of Banned Books at Springfield Technical Community College. The exhibit is available for viewing during our open library hours, you can stop by anytime the library is open - no appointment is needed. After your visit, please sign our virtual guestbook - we would love to hear from you!

Exhibit Location

The banned books exhibit is installed inside the STCC Library. The library is located on the right hand side (when facing the building) of Building 19 on the STCC Campus.

Take the elevator or staircase up to the second floor. Go past the reference desk and computer area. The Periodic Table of Banned Books exhibit is installed on the yellow wall facing the main campus, in the hallway off to the right of the Computer/Printer Help Desk.

Parking

Visitors from the general public should park in the visitor parking spaces available in front of Building 19 and Building 16 to avoid getting ticketed - no parking passes are needed to park in these visitor spaces. STCC uses a license plate reader system with cameras for parking services. Unregistered vehicles parked in incorrect parking spots may be ticketed. You may email us at STCCBannedBooks@gmail.com or call the library at (413) 755-4845 to request a visitor parking pass.

Banned Book Element Tile for Dear Martin

The QR code in the lower right hand corner of each Banned Book Element Tile can be scanned with a QR reader app, or the camera on your smartphone.

The Periodic Table of Banned Books is an interactive, physical exhibit in the library!


  • There are 84 Banned Book Element Tiles that make up our Periodic Table of Banned Books. Each Banned Book Element Tile has a corresponding webpage you can explore to learn more about the book.

  • A QR code is located in the lower right-hand corner of each tile. This code can be scanned with a QR reader app or the camera on a smartphone.

  • Open up the camera or QR reader app on your phone and point it at the QR code on the Banned Book Element Tile of your choice. You will be taken to a detailed webpage that has a book summary, reasons why the book was banned, and different ways you can get and read the book.

Check Out a Book Before You Leave

All of the books featured on The Periodic Table of Banned Books are owned by the STCC Library. Librarians are available to help you locate and check out books!

STCC Community

Members of the STCC community have full borrowing privileges at the STCC Library, located in Building 19, 2nd Floor, provided they are actively registered in the college system and their records are in good standing.

Database access and e-content is available to all students, faculty, and staff using the following credentials:

Username: STCC ID number

Password: Last name in capital letters.

General Public/Additional Resources

CW/MARS and Boston Public Library eCards will give you access to additional Print, eBook and Audiobook versions of the books featured on our periodic table. You can also download the Libby app to listen to audiobooks on your smartphone. These resources are outside of STCC Library, please consult your local public library for any questions regarding these outside resources.
