Leaving School Early
Should your child need to leave school during a session e.g. to keep a medical/dental appointment, a letter should be sent to the class teacher stating the time you or your named representative will be picking up your child from school.
Your son/daughter will not be allowed to leave the premises unaccompanied, or without prior arrangement (in writing).
Medicines
Medicines are not administered in schools by school staff for routine illnesses without written permission and details from parents.
Children who suffer from asthma may keep their inhalers in their classrooms and use them as required. In special circumstances, where a child is on permanent medication, the Headteacher will make arrangements with individual parents.
Medicines must not be sent to school without the consent agreement in place between parent and school
Illness
Please will you ensure that we are informed about any medical condition relating to your child that is likely to affect your child’s education or general well being in school. At various stages through the school years, children will have their eyesight and hearing tested and a routine dental check is usually carried out. Any concerns raised during these routine checks will result in the offer of an appointment to the relative health department.
If your child becomes ill or has an accident at school it may become necessary to contact you. Please ensure that emergency contact numbers are up to date. Children who have minor accidents at school, usually when falling over at playtime or lunchtime, are tended to by one of the school’s qualified first aiders. These accidents are recorded in the accident book and parents are informed of any significant incident either by means of a note or telephone call. Please do not send your child to school if they are unwell.
Dogs
Please can you not bring dogs to the school yard. We often have to clean up the mess which they leave behind. We therefore, request that you leave dogs at home when escorting your children to and from school. The Governing Body has banned dogs from the school site.
Smoking in School
In line with Government legislation, we operate a NO SMOKING POLICY. Please do not smoke either in school or when waiting in the school grounds.
Head Lice
As all schools we have cases of head lice in school. These can be minimised by tying back long hair and regularly using a nit comb. The school nurse no longer visits school to inspect children’s hair; parents are asked to do this at home on a regular basis. Head lice is regarded as a community problem, generally when a child has head lice, other family members will also be infected. Advice can be sought from the local pharmacist on methods of treatment. If you do need further advice we do hold meetings with the school nurse, throughout the year, where information and guidance can be found. Please attend these meetings and together we can improve this situation.
Parking
Parking inside the school grounds is for staff only. Please respect the parking restrictions outside the school at all times, do not park your car where children’s lives may be put at risk.
We do have two spaces in the school car park allocated for those with an orange disability badge. If you inform the school office that you need the space and show your badge to the secretary, you would be welcome to use our car park.
School Security
All visitors to the school are requested to report to the Secretary’s office to sign in. If visitors are spending time at our school a coloured lanyard is issued to them to wear. The colour lanyard indicates to all staff that the visitor has or has not been through the DBS security checks at the local authority.
Photographs of all staff are displayed and children are encouraged to be observant at all times.
All doors are fitted with security locks and access to the school is only through the main entrance. This door is controlled with C.C.T.V. and a door release system. The gates to the playground/reception class are locked ten minutes after the start of the day and reopened ten minutes before the end of the day.
A C.C.T.V. system has also been installed around the school and video records all areas. This system not only makes the school a safer place, but also allows us to monitor behaviour and movement both around and outside the school.
Thank you for taking the time to read this information- we do hope that you find it useful, but if you have any suggestions on how we could improve our Handbook, then please let us know.
