Modernizing the Payroll System for the State of Colorado
Project Overview and Mission
We aim to replace the state's legacy mainframe payroll system with a modern cloud-based solution.
Through this effort, the Payroll Implementation Team strives to:
Reduce manual processes and increase task efficiency for payroll, finance, and HR professionals in state agencies
Improve data integrity and increase data security
Standardize business processes across agencies and departments, aligning processes with HR best practices and law statewide
Continue to provide the state's 36,000+ employees with accurate and timely pay
Current Status
The much-anticipated COMPAS system is preparing for go-live! Current project activities include:
Labor Distribution Profile Workshops - Representatives across the state are defining labor distribution profiles (LDPRs) for their agencies. LDPRs will replace the accounting templates CPPS currently uses to allocate labor costs.
User Acceptance Testing - Planning is underway for User Acceptance Testing (UAT), which will kick-off in the near future. 150 Trailblazers will join the project and get hands-on in COMPAS, executing common business scenarios to ensure the application meets the State's needs.
Training - On the training front, peer trainers, known as Learning Orienteers, have been trained and are preparing to lead live courses for COMPAS users. A variety of training sessions will be available based on a user’s business or security roles. Training opportunities include both web-based training (WBT) and virtual instructor-led training (VILT) sessions. Completion of web-based training is a prerequisite for attending VILT training sessions, which start in early February and continue through March.

Key project meetings are shown here. Meeting audiences range from executive level stakeholders to system administrators and everyone in-between, but typically all are welcome to attend.
