On this page I will be posting photos and information about what your children have been learning at school. The new posts will be at the bottom of the page so you will need to scroll down to see them.
I hope you enjoy seeing all the wonderful things we are doing and all the learning that is happening while we are at school.
Sharon Flanagan
We have been focussing on our school rules and all the things we can do at school to be happy, caring and safe.
We have also been learning about lots of different things that we can do at school that help us to be ready to learn. We made a list. Can you think of any other things that we can do at school?
At school we are using our positive mindsets when we are challenged.
Our School Uniform
We have been identifying the reasons why it is important to have a school uniform. Here are some reasons why school uniforms are essential...They help kids to dress smartly for school, children take pride in wearing their school uniform since it helps them to connect with their school—there is a sense of belonging. Everyone is equal as we all part of the one community and wearing a uniform shows that we are proud of this.
We made dress up dolls of ourselves wearing our St. Theresa's school uniform. We are very proud to be part of our school and community. Our uniforms help identify us at school. We all belong and feel a part of our class Prep/One S.
Our uniforms also have the St.Theresa's school logo on them - We are learning to ..."Do small things well" just like our patron saint - St. Theresa.

We also need to wear our school hat ouside.
Our hat is part of our school uniform.
Remember - "No hat, no play, no fun today!" Wearing a hat protects our face, neck and head from the sun.
We need to wear our hats in Terms 1 and 4.
We learnt a new game called dancing numbers. You wear a number from 1 to 30. Everyone can pick a number that they really like. Then you put the music on and dance around the classroom. When the music stops, you need to quickly get into the correct number order. It could be forwards or backwards. We like to move it, move it !!
We have been learning to count forwards to 10 and backwards from 10. We have pretended to be astronauts and take off to the moon. We are very good at backwards counting and blasting off to the moon.
You are excellent at counting forwards and backwards to 10.
You are terrific at counting forwards and backwards to 10.
We have been learning to play a game called Roll and Build. You roll a dice, find the number and then build a tower on that number with blocks or counters. Some of us made towers to 6, some to 12 and others to 20. We are very good at challenging ourselves and building very tall number towers.
We have been learning to count forwards to 100 and backwards from 100. We have also been counting by 10's and making different numbers to 100 and beyond. We have been enjoying listening to songs that help us to count to 100. Try to count along with these number songs!!
Every morning when we come into our class we begin the day with a prayer. After we have made the sign of the cross, we offer our prayers for the day. We are also using song and singing as a way to pray. We have enjoyed learning this special song. We have learnt some beautiful actions to go with the words.
In Mathematics the Preps have been learning about sequencing of events. Today we made a jam sanwich so that we could sequence all of the events step by step. We followed a procedure to help us with each of the steps. We thought they were delicious!!
To make jam sandwiches you need the following ingredients bread, jam and margarine or butter.
You also need a plate and a knife. We are experts at making jam sandwiches now.
Can you put all of these pictures in the correct order? 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th!
The Preps did an amazing job with their sequencing of jam sandwich pictures.
The Grade One children have been very busy learning about Place Value with Silvana. They have been bundling tens with icy pole sticks and using tens frames to make enormous numbers. They are so clever. They can make numbers in the tens, hundreds and even thousands collums. Awesome!
Today the Prep/One children participated in an Incursion from Market Fresh. Carolyn and Judy came to St. Theresa's to teach us about how food is grown on farms, and how it comes to a HUGE fruit and vegetable market in Epping and then is distributed to supermarkets and shops.
We watched a brief movie about how fruit and vegetables are grown on farms and orchards.
Then we discovered how fruit and vegetables are picked, harvestered and sent to larger markets and then sold to supermarkets and shops.
We watched an interview about farmers on the land and how they help us to put fresh fruit and vegetables on the table.
Carolyn taught us all about eating fresh fruit and vegetables. It is important to have 3-5 seves daily!
Eating fresh fruit and vegetables is so good for your health - we have been learning all about this in our Inquiry unit.
Charlotte and Barkley's mum came to school and cut up all of this beautiful fresh fruit for us to taste and eat from the market.
We got to taste yummy bananas, oranges, apples, capsicum, rockmelon, tomato and cucumber with avacado dip.
When we finished eating we put all of our food scraps in the compost bin and then we put our paper plates in the recycling bin.
We were so lucky to get a special Market Fresh activity book to take home. It has loads of great information in it, word searches, colouring sheets and even a dot to dot.
This is a lovely story about a little girl and her family visiting a market. But what does the little girl in the story end up doing with her special coin?
This is a lovely story about growing vegetables. It also has amazing art work pictures in it as well. Which page is your favourite?
In Prep/One S we like to pray everyday and begin by making 'The Sign of The Cross'. We have been working on this and learning to do it respectfully.
We completed some tasks to help us learn how to make 'The Sign Of The Cross'. Some of us cut and paste the text and pictures in the correct order, others completed a cloze passage activity where we had to fill in the missing Sign of th Cross words.
This video shows you how to make 'The Sign of the Cross'. Can you do it all by yourself after you have watched the video? Have a go!!
What is Shrove Tuesday? On Shrove Tuesday, Christians use up all the ingredients in the pantry to prepare ourselves for Lent ….giving up sweet things and making some decisions to become better people are all things we do before Ash Wednesday which is the beginning of Lent. Lent is a season of the Church. It is the 40 days leading up to Easter. We made yummy pancakes from scratch and they were absolutely delicious.
In Prep/One S we made pancakes from scratch. We listened to some great stories and then discussed the meaning of Shrove Tuesday. We followed a recipe to make sure that our pancakes were light, fluffy and delicious! We were so full that some of us couldn't eat our lunch!
You will need - Eggs, self raising flour, butter, milkand sugar to make your pancakes. We used butter, lemon, sugar, maple syrup and plum jam as toppings.
We needed the following utensils to make our pancakes-
*An electric frying pan
*Measuring spoons
*Measuring cups
*A flip or slide or tongs
*A wooden spoon or large spoon
*A bowl
and a tea towel
Mix ingredients in a bowl until you have a smooth batter or mixture.
Pour into frying pan and wait till you see the bubbles appear.
Flip the pancakes over when they are golden brown.
Get ready to put your toppings on and eat them.
Pancakes, pancakes in your hand.
Make me one as fast as you can.
Mix it, then pour it, then fry it for tea.
Put it in your tummy and enjoy it with me.
YUM -YUM!
This recipe is for children who love pancakes but need to avoid eggs due to allergies.
Ash Wednesday is the beginning of the season of Lent. We went to mass to celebrate as a school and we all received the ashes as a sign of God's love for all of us. The season of Lent goes for 40 days and ends with Holy Week and Easter Sunday. This video explains Ash Wednesday.
Each year during Lent our school participates in Project compassion. It is a time where we save our coins, place them in the money box and return it to school so the funds can be donated to those families around the world that are less fortunate than us.
Lucy and Amelia came to talk to the Prep/One S children about Project Compassion. Thank you!!
Inside are all of the Project Compassion boxes for the Prep/One S families.
Lucy and Amelia were fabulous at explaining how we should help others less fortunate then ourselves.
Every day the children complete different examples of equations and problems to help them retain Maths information in their long term memories.
After the school holidays we had a very special visit from the Easter Bunny. He left Eastereggs everywhere. We searched all over our classroom and collected all of the special surprises he left us. Then we counted them out and shared the c olourful eggs with everyone in Prep/One S.
It was absolutely amazing t see so many families at the St. Theresa's School Movie Night. Everyone had such a lovely time watching Paddington in Peru.
Thank you to our beautiful families for making the night such a success.
Thank you to all of our beautiful Mums and carers who do an amazing job looking after us. We appreciate everything you do and love you all so very much!
Can you find all of the similes that are in this book?
onder if you can also think of some of your own.
Look at our lovely portraits of our precious Mums that we have drawn and painted below.
Similes are comparisons using "like" or "as" to describe something in a new and interesting way. For example...As brave as a lion: Describing someone who is fearless. As fast as a cheetah: Describing someone or something that runs very quickly. Many familiar sayings like "as busy as a bee" or "as quiet as a mouse" are similes.

Floral Note Holders for our special Mums!
This little video will teach you about how to use the apostrophe of possession. We used them for our portraits of our mums. Eg... Sharon's Mum.
We made our mums some beautiful cards with a special tea bag in them to make themselves a lovely cup of tea. Our cads were in the shape of a teapot!!
We also made our mums a lovely shopping bag to take with them to the shops when they need to buy things. We decorated them with lovely illustrations of us with our mums.
You are always there to watch us grow and fly.
This term in Inquiry we are learning lots of things about water. The Prep/One children went on an excursion to Kororoit Creek to learn about this waterway and the animals that live there. We also had a lesson with Greg and Charlotte to help us learn how we can care for our waterways and local community areas.
The Preps had an absolutely terrific time celebrating their 100 Days at school. It was a day filled with many exciting activities and fun tasks. All of the children said it was 'The best day ever!'
Can you count how many days the Preps have been at school?
We have been celebrating Bookweek and have been doing lots of fun activities to show how much we love books. The theme for this year is 'Book an Adventure'.
We have listened to stories, completed some beautiful artwork and participated in a Bookweek parade.
We had such a lovely time celebrating with our Dad's leading up to Father's Day. In Prep/One S we played some Maths games with our wonderful dads. You will be very surprised by how much we actually look like our dads. Have a look at these photos!
