OUR TEACHERS
In Grade Prep/1, we work together as a team to support all of the children in our level.
Children work in whole class and small groups so that their learning can be supported and extended in different ways throughout the term.
Sharon and Britt are the classroom teachers and they are supported by Silvana.

Hi, I'm Sharon and I teach Prep/1 S. I have been teaching for over 30 years and love what I do. I have three children. One daughter and two sons. I love spending time with my family, reading, dancing and going for walks. I also like football. The mighty Saints are my favourite team.

Britt
Hi, I'm Britt and I teach Prep/1 E.
I have four children and love watching them play their sport on weekends. I enjoy spending my time with family and friends. I look forward to this year, which will include lots of fun and rich learning!

OUR LEARNING - Term 1
Literacy
This term students will be immersed in rich texts such as Nursery Rhymes
and Narratives. They will be exposed to the structure of these particular genres, aswell as opportunites to further develop their comprehension skills.
Students will learn to construct complete sentences by using nouns, verbs and adjectives and identify
letter soud relationships.
Students will learn how to segment and blend sounds to read a word.
Maths
This term, our Prep students will explore a variety of patterns by using hands on materials to make their own using objects, shapes and colour.
They will become familiar with certain parts of the day such as Morning, Midday, Afternoon and Evening, They will learn to sequence events and name days of the week and months of the year. Students will explore place value, learn to count small collections and read and write numbers.
The Grade One students will particpate in activites where they collect data and represent this information on a variety of graphs.
The students will explore number by making and representing two digit numbers, locate numbers on a hundreds chart and number line. Students will use hands on materials and a variety of strategies to add and subtract collections aswell as identify number bonds to twet and partition given numbers.
Religion
This term our Religious Education Unit will help students understand that we are loved and protected by people in our lives. We can see the presence of God in many ways, our Creator, Father, Shepherd and Protector.
Students will be exposed to a variety of texts and scripture that teach us that God knows, loves , cares for us and is always with us.
Students will also become familiar with the Easter story, where Jesus dies on the cross and rose from the dead. Students will learn that Easter is a time to celebrate Jesus' resurrection; a time to start over, experience new life and hope.
Inquiry
This term we will be To learning what it means to be safe, healthy and happy.
Together we will explore the people in our school community who help us be safe, healthy and happy.
This unit will highlight these people who can look after us, but come to an understanding that we can also make decisions that contribute to our safety, health and happiness.
We will also identify the ways that feedback and growth mindsets can contribute to our readiness to learn.
SEL
SEL is an important part of our curricuum as it aims to nuture each child's social and emotional learning.
This term students will participate in games and activites in order to develop Emotional Literacy; articulate how they are feeling and learn positive ways in which we can deal with these feelings. Students will also partake in role play to learn to navigate social situations and solve problems.
STEM
STEM in Term One has a focus on answering questions, solving problems and learning new things about SCIENCE using the scientific method. The children will participate in guided investigations and experiments to explore ideas. They will hypothesise the outcomes of experiments and safely use the 5 senses to observe the results. In most STEM activities, the children will work in small groups where they will share ideas and materials, take turns and practise teamwork and communication skills.
Italian
Term 1 students will be covering the following:
Counting from 0-10 in the Italian language accompanied by a song and actions.
Learning the song Ciao buongiorno (Playschool version)
Learning the question Come stai? (How are you?) and four possible responses, which will be answered visually as well as spoken using emojis
Learning the question Come ti chiami? (What's your name?) and the way to answer Mi chiamo
Art
PE
During their weekly sport lessons the children in Prep/1 will be given opportunities to develop their fundamental motor skills. They will play games to improve their coordination and teamwork. The children will develop basic ball control skills in soccer and football.
