Injury Care
The Staff Athletic Trainers will evaluate, treat, and rehabilitate athletic injuries. They work with each athlete individually to determine a course of action for returning to practices, games, and/or referral to physicians.
As an allied health profession, the Staff Athletic Trainers work under the direction of a physician. This is why we must ask student athletes to provide us with a note from their treating physician regarding limitations, restrictions, and/or plan of care.
Staff Athletic Trainers will communicate with parents and coaches as appropriate regarding any injury care, recommendations, and/or limitations/restrictions.
ATHLETIC TRAINING ROOM HOURS
Appropriate time for an athlete to seek assistance include before school or practice, during their athletic period with Coach or Staff AT permission, and/or after school / practice.
Athletes may not be late to class or leave class to come to the athletic training room for assistance unless there is a possible fracture or concussion
morning treatments begin at 7:30am daily - enter through door between Marauder & MAC gym
afternoon treatments begin immediately after school and last until approximately 4:30 pm unless practices end earlier or run later - athletes must be in the athletic training room within 15 minutes of getting off of the playing field/court
due to games on Tuesdays & Fridays, treatment after school may be limited
per LISD policy - injuries sustained outside of "officia/UILl" school practice or game may receive limited care until seen by a physician
CONCUSSION MANAGEMENT
As required by state law, LISD has established a Concussion Management Protocol that briefly involves:
if concussion is possible - the athlete will be removed from athletic participation for further evaluation
if concussion is suspected - the athlete will be referred to physician
Marcus currently use C3 Logix for baseline and post injury testing and may include neurologic, balance, and visual tests
when cleared by the treating physician - athlete must complete "Return To Play" protocol
required forms will be obtained & Staff Athletic Trainers will assist with communication regarding any athletic or academic restrictions due to the concussion
