Mock Trial

Information
Our mock trial students compete through the Texas Youth and Government Judicial program. The coach will assign students to teams of 5-8 students. During each trial round, 2 students act as attorneys and 3 students act as witnesses. Similar to debate events, the team must prepare both sides of the case: prosecution/plaintiff and defense/respondent and they will play both sides at competition. The trial has opening statements from attorneys, the witnesses are direct-examined and cross-examined by the attorneys, and then there are closing statements. At the end of the trial, the presiding judge delivers a verdict, but the round is won by the team with the most points on the evaluation sheet from the adult evaluator(s) in the room.
