A number of our Autumn term clubs have some places remaining, if you are interested in any of our extra curricular clubs, please check out ParentPay to see which clubs still have some availability. Our KS2 Dodgeball and Basketball clubs were hugely popular and sold out in record time, thank you for your ongoing support.
Our Year Three children have enjoyed lessons with the Richmond Safe Walking team. The children were encouraged to think about traffic hazards and, where possible, use routes with crossing facilities.
As we come to the end of another fabulous sporting year, we caught up with our sports coach, Mr Cain, for a round-up of our PE and games curriculum
This year we have introduced a new curriculum, which covers eighteen topics per academic year for all KS2 children. This includes football, tag rugby, dodgeball, dance, gymnastics, yoga and hockey, to name but a few. This compares with twelve topics in KS1; including gymnastics, ball skills, invasion games and tennis.
This year we have also increased the number of sports clubs we provide. On offer are more than eighteen activities, including dodgeball, football, athletics, tennis, hockey and basketball, across both key stages. These take place both before and after school. We also have a nutrition club for children to understand the importance of eating correctly. Other related clubs including performing arts and M-Tech.
We have also upgraded our lunchtime sports activities, providing all children with a different sport every day. Sometimes, to add variety, these may inlude sports not currently covered in our curriculum. On Wednesday we deliver two separate sports and on Fridays we split into boys and girls groups. This has led to a greater uptake of these sporting sessions, particularly with the girls. We deliver this to Years Five and Six and the second half of lunchtime provision is run by the Year Six sports leaders who lead the same activities for Years Three and Four. As well as that we have now linked up with Heatham House, which is a fully staffed youth club, it provides further lunchtime provision on Fridays.
This year, we have doubled the number of sports competitions entered. We have made it a priority that all children leaving us in Year Six have competed at least once for the school before they move to secondary school.
Our sports day has been revamped, with a focus on inclusivity across the board, opting for an 'everyone competes in everything' format. In addition to this, we have now split sports day into sessions - one each for Reception, KS1 and KS2. Children compete for their houses and during the KS1 and Reception sports days our Year Six sports leaders ran the activities.
We have competed in an array of sports and also put girls at the forefront of our provision, including girls-only clubs and girls-only events, such as girls football and girls rugby competitions. This is an addition to all the other sports we have participated in during this academic year. We have had thirty two fixtures across all sports, culminating in reaching the Dodgeball National Finals.
As a school, we offer a sports holiday camp for all children and understand the importance of ensuring our families are supported during the school holidays. We are aware of all our families' needs and our pastoral team are on hand if finances are a problem to ensure all children, including PP students, are catered for in the same way.
And finally, another one of our additions this year is the 'Joy of Movement’ programme or ‘Move and Learn’. ‘Move & Learn’ is targeted at children aged nine and ten – a key milestone in a child’s development – and is designed to appeal to every child through a fun and engaging approach. Consisting of nine hours of education over six weeks, plus a series of home-based family challenges, children learn about the importance of physical activity and how to eat a balanced diet and lead an active lifestyle.
