So far, over the last three weeks, we have explored lots of different real foods using our five senses. We have explored which food was greenest and why, found out if foods taste the same as they smell and investigated which foods are noisy or quiet when we eat them! Above all we have had lots of fun, eaten and explored many different foods, improved our knife skills and made new friends. We have also been chewing our food at least fifteen times because we know this helps our bodies get all the nutrients from the food - try it at home!! Come and join us in September! At the moment sculpture is the focus of art in Year Four. The end goal was to create some Barbara Hepworth replicas. However, first the young sculptors learned how to use water and scoring, as slip, to adhere two pieces of clay together. They learned, as a rule of thumb, the clay needs to be as thick as a finger in order for it to hold its shape and not break off during the drying process. We started off modelling some figures, before moving on to all things Barbara Hepworth.
Our Reception children visited the apiary in Twickenham, where we learned how important bees are. We found out how bees pollinate flowers. One of the highlights of the trip was seeing the beekeepers outside. They showed us the hives and we even spotted the queen. We were able to hold a drone and discovered that they do not have a sting, so it was safe to hold them. This is always one of our favourite trips in EYFS.
