FOSS SPONSORED LONDON – PARIS BIKE RIDE 2024
This year, twenty eight parents AND grandparents cycled one hundred and seventy miles to Paris, following almost half a year of training in all weathers – we are beyond grateful for their exceptional commitment to supporting this fundraising effort. What a phenomenal journey we have behind us and what an incredible fundraising effort made by each and every one of our cyclists. Thank you for reaching out to your family and friend networks and encouraging their support through sponsorship! Plus, thank you to all the school parents who were in a position to sponsor too – we really do appreciate this, and every penny counts!
The JustGiving pot (on Wednesday) stands at £28,889 plus £6,207 GiftAid which is OVER £35K!!!!!!!! JUST UNBELIEVABLE! Half of this will go back to the school to support our children’s education: by the end of this academic year, FOSS will have fulfilled the school wishlist totalling almost £83k which has included paying for new Chromebooks and iPads, French lessons, online learning platforms including Mathletics and Accelerated Reader, the wellbeing service, M-Tech, the Ivy wall maintenance and resources to support almost every single subject at school. This continued support is only possible due to the incredibly proactive and generous support from our entire school community – support that comes in all shapes and sizes! All of us in FOSS feel very lucky to be a part of it!
The other half of the JustGiving pot is split between The Flying Seagull Project (we hope your children enjoyed the flavour of the work their work), ADHD Embrace and The Moormead Pavilion Project.
While we were on the road, the fantastic Richard White updated Insta followers with our progress. These snippets beautifully capture our journey - don't forget to click on the Youtube reel at the bottom! Below you will also find some reports from our Year Six children.

A Day With The Flying Seagulls
Last Friday, our school was blessed with arrival of the fFlying Seagulls whose happy faces and beaming smiles lit up our morning as much as the sun lit up our world. Along with their juggling balls and hula hoops, they brought happiness and joy to what we would be and ordinary day.
Morning Assembly
Starting our day off, the Flying Seagulls presented their mission- to bring joy to children all over the world- to us children in a way we found easy to understand.
Despite their serious goals, they are fun, joyful, funny individuals with a nack for entertaining. By the end of their assembly, even teachers struggled to contain their rippling laughter!
Allez, Allez, Allez!
For those who were wondering, Allez, Allez, Allez means Go, Go, Go in English. On the same day we were treated with the Flying Seagulls, we saw the adults- of some of our fellow St Stephens pupils- set of to Paris, equipped with only their bikes and helmets. With this one act of bravery, our adults raised over £25,000!
Workshop
Along with the assembly- possibly my favourite act- BB and Nana- the hosts- also helped with spinning plates and juggling in their workshop. It consisted of them warming us up with some games and silliness before demonstrating the circus skills and setting us off for the best hour of our lives. Along with this honour, some of the year 6 pupils volunteered to help the younger years with the mini-circus.

Fun-filled Day with the Flying Seagulls
We were all buzzing on the way to school because we knew today wasn’t a normal day of lessons - the Flying Seagulls were here! They would leave St Stephens brimming with laughter and fun with the numerous shows and workshops.
Morning Show and Cycling Departure
Welcomed by smiles as soon as we entered the gates, the Flying Seagulls put on a hilarious show for us and the parents too! Exhilarated and thrilled by the positivity, we were all grinning by the end of it.
Afterwards, the cyclists rode through the playground and we were all filled with pride. It was a part of a charity event for our school and three other charities: ADHD Embrace, Moormead Pavilion, and the Flying Seagulls Project.
Circus Workshop
As a part of the fun-day, each St Stephens pupil got the opportunity to learn small circus tricks and various other things like spinning plates, hoola-hoops, tightrope and stilts as well as Stuck in the Mud as a warm-up.
End-of-the-Day Show
As a cherry-on-top for the incredible day we had had, we were invited to the football pitch for yet another final show. The Flying Seagulls left us screaming with laughter and our hearts filled with merriment, as we filtered out the gates. None of us could stop talking about it on the way home.
Summary
This extraordinary day with the Flying Seagulls has taught me the importance of having fun. It has also allowed me to realise the significance of laughing, playing, and being happy.

A day brimming with excitement and joy from the Flying Seagulls Project!
Last Friday will go down in history as one of the greatest days at our school - all thanks to the Flying Seagulls! On June 7th, our school - St Stephens Primary - was visited by Bibi, Loz and Nana ( three clowns from the charity ). The performers greeted everyone in our playground with big smiles and cheerful waves! Read on to find out about the fun-filled festival we had with them.
The Morning
Before we began our day of laughter, the clowns gave us a little introduction to their plan ; spreading happiness around the world. They showed us some of their interesting tricks and ( although the circus day hadn’t begun ) joy echoed around the football pitch. Then, after a quick speech from the Mayor , our devoted cyclists - mums, dads, grandparents - set off for Paris! Allez, allez, allez! Now, it was time for the enjoyment start.
The circus begins
The Flying Seagulls ( who were already so generous by putting on two shows for us ) decided to show all of us their amazing circus skills ; there were stilts , tight-ropes , balancing plates , hula-hoop tricks and so much more! They went year to year, spreading their knowledge to all of our pupils. I can only imagine how tired they were after that! Each and every child left the workshop grinning ear to ear.
However, with sixty kids to look after , they needed some help along the way. A few year six’s were chosen to help keep the children entertained. Showing the younger years how to become a clown for a day, the performers sure were happy to have the year six’s on their team!
The Final Show
Just before three o’clock, Bibi and Nana gave us one last show. All the parents, carers teachers and students gathered around to watch the performance of a life time! Smiling,
Laughing, cheering ; no one there was frowning.
When they left, nobody could stop talking about it. All the fun we had is now one a core memory for us all! Thank you Flying Seagulls!

On Friday 7th of June, the Flying Seagull Charity - a project that brings fun and laughter to children around the globe - visited our school and were welcomed with cheers and claps alike at the gates. With trunks full of balloon animals and buckets full of joy, they sure put smiles on faces.
To start off the excitement filled day, the whole school filled into the playground anxiously anticipating the fun that was to come, and they did not disappoint! With a hilarious mini show, they performed for the mesmerized crowd. The clowns (Bebe and Loz) introduced themselves and promised an exciting day full of circus skills and other hocus pocus.
It was not just clowning about though, many of the children’s parents and grandparents were starting their incredible bike ride to Paris and all looked proud of their commitment and ready to take on their challenge and raise as much money as possible for the Flying Seagulls and other charities - such as ADHD Embrace and the Moore Mead pavilion.
The determined cyclists also did a little show and finally with a send off by the mayor, were off. Allez, allez, allez - off to Paris!
On Friday, Year 6 were given the opportunity to help out the younger years with their circus skills and they rose to the challenge like pros! With mini tightropes and hula hoops alike, the air was brimming with joyous laughter. Even during their break time, the children were glad to show off how much they had learnt with their peers.
Finally, it was the main event, we had had a great day but it was time for the day of wonder and amazement to end, so we all gathered in the playground once again for a final clown show from the Flying Seagulls (this time Bebe was accompanied by Nana)!
This was no ordinary clown show though, with magic tricks and extravaganza they captivated the crowd - parents were allowed to attend - and definitely was a fitting end to a long week!
So over all it was a fun day; a day full of clowns and circus skills , jokes and magic tricks. We even saw the mayor! Therefore, if you ever hear of Seagulls coming to St Stephens- you know what happened!

The FOSS Friday cake sale takes place every week in the playground after school. Last year it raised a staggering £5,700 for the school. Many thanks to everyone who donated and bought cakes.
As a reminder - in order to keep our whole school community safe we always ask that homemade or shop bought cakes do not contain nuts, coconut or sesame. Many shop bought cakes will say 'may contain nuts' and, given people bake in their homes, we can never guarantee the sale is completely 'nut free,' as traces may exist. Any cake bought at the sale is under parental supervision, not school supervision. Parents who give their children money to visit the sale are accepting parental responsibility (especially for Yr5 and Yr6 children whose parents may not be present at pick up). Children going to Stars on a Friday afternoon do not visit the cake sale, instead a cake is provided directly by Stars to children who would like to visit. Thank you in advance to everyone over this school year that will bake, buy and help make our cake sales succesful and safe.
Many thanks
