Year 3
The children have been introduced to some new characters in class who celebrate strengths in different executive functions and qualities in catholic social teaching. So far the children have met Patariki the Penguin who is great at starting tasks and taking part, and also DJ the Dolphin who tries hard even when things are difficult.
The children have been taking an active part in helping to lead our prayer and liturgy times. They were also able to spend time with the Blessed Sacrament in the small hall.
At the start of the year, the children learnt about the role of school councillors and then wrote persuasive speeches to read in class for the election. As part of their role, the elected school councillors gave a speech to remind children about the upcoming CAFOD collection.
Year 4
Our children had a special opportunity to visit the Blessed Sacrament for a time of quiet adoration and reflection. The following week, they built on this experience by planning and leading their own prayer time, showing great reverence, thoughtfulness and faith.
In our Let’s Think in English lessons, the children explored The Red Tree by Shaun Tan. Working in small groups, they reflected on the book’s powerful ideas and matched its beautiful illustrations to their own thoughtful writing. Inspired by Shaun Tan’s artwork, the children then created and illustrated their own additional pages that could be added to the book, showcasing imagination and emotional depth.
