Preschool
The pre-schoolers have been settling into their new environment and getting to know each other, their adults and their classroom. The children have been exploring and learning how to play alongside each other. We are so proud of how the children have settled into life at St Helen’s. Starting in the pre-school is a huge milestone for many of the children who have never been away from their family before. Every child in the pre-school is well settled and happy which is a huge accomplishment for them.
Nursery
What a busy and exciting first half term it’s been in Nursery! We’ve loved making new friends, meeting new people, and settling into our school community.
The children have enjoyed exploring the great outdoors, from adventures in Forest School to playing and learning together in our outdoor area. We’ve been challenging ourselves with new activities, sharing stories and developing a real love of reading. Using the iPads has been a big hit too - helping us explore, create, and learn in fun new ways.
We’re so proud of how much everyone has grown already and can’t wait to see what the next half term brings!
We love reading books and listening to stories, recreating stories and role play.
We have enjoyed exploring technology in our learning.
We love being outside and learning at our Forest School lessons and in our playground.
Reception
We have had a very busy time of learning in Reception.
The children have settled well in St Helen’s making friends and strengthening their love for learning.
We welcomed The Blessed Sacrament to St Helen’s during mission week and made our own Blessed Sacraments in class. The children shared their love for Jesus and how we show love for others by helping and caring for all.
We have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes, made pictures, sorted them and found them all around our classroom.
We looked at the story “Tiger, it’s snowing” and made lollipop stick tigers and playdough snow scenes to act out what the characters do when they play in the snow.
Our classes have been on some fun adventures during our Forest school sessions, making discoveries of creatures habitats, exploring the woodland area as the seasons change. We always love to climb the trees safely and take turns on the tyre swing Miss Morgan sets up.
The month of October was the month of the rosary, where we learnt about what it is and the special Hail Mary prayer we say for it. We even made our very own ones that we could wear on our wrists.
We went and bought some ingredients for our Yellow Day activities where we made happy faces and sunshine biscuits.
For our physical development our PE and Gymnastics coaches taught us new skills on how to balance and tumble. As well as developed our coordination to throw and catch bean bags to one another and even run really fast.
We’ve done lots of singing and recognising the beat and rhythm in our music lessons with Miss Taylor.
In our French lessons with Miss Odufuye, we have been learning how to say the colours of the French flag in french and have made some representations using toys in the classroom.
Towards the end of term we were learning about our families and cultural heritage and made Family Trees and did some research at home on where our families come from to share what we learnt with our classmates.
