Year 1
As the school year has started, the year 1 children have been developing their handwriting skills through many handwriting practice sessions.
This has allowed us to provide interventions where children have required support in developing a good pencil grip and writing the letters in the lines which is new for us as we move from Reception to Year 1.
Throughout our maths lessons in the first half term, year 1 has been understanding numbers to 10. This started with number lines and knowing how to sequence amounts. Year 1 then looked at the order of numbers looking and more and less. This has led to number bonds to 5 and number bonds to 10.
During our whole class music lessons children explored the beat and passed the beat on.
It was excellent for the children’s social skills as well as developing their understanding of the musical beat.
Religion -
In 1B some of the children enjoyed choosing time, they were able to choose where they wanted to go and play. They socialised with each other and had fun.
Year 2
This term in Year 2, children are learning to understand tens and ones, practice the 3 times table, and use part-whole models to explore number relationships. These skills help build a strong foundation in number sense, place value, and multiplication. We have been using different manipulatives like bead stings to help us.
As part of our Creation and Covenant unit in Religion, we’ve been learning about the special signs of God’s love and promises. We took part in prayer services focused on the Blessed Sacrament, showing reverence for Jesus’ presence. We also explored the meaning of Baptism, through role play, our first step into God’s family and how it connects us to His covenant. Through prayer, reflection, and discussion, we are growing in our understanding of God's relationship with us and how we can live out His promises every day.
We’ve been learning how to recognise and name different feelings and emotions. By looking at a variety of real-life scenarios, we’ve sorted them into how they might make us feel - happy, sad, angry, excited or worried. This helps us better understand ourselves and others, and how to respond in kind and respectful ways.
The children had a go at being illustrators in the style of Daishu Mai, the illustrator of our focus book - Tiger, Don't Worry.
