Preschool
Fireworks Arts & Crafts - The pre-schoolers have been learning about fireworks and the language that links with the sounds and colours that fireworks make.
Forest School - We have enjoyed exploring the outdoors and looking at the different habitats around our school.
Learning Through Play - The pre-schoolers have become far more confident this term with developing their awareness of their self help skills; our focus books have been ‘I want my Dummy!’ And ‘I want my Potty!’.
Nursery
Baking - We baked scrumptious scones for Little Red Riding Hood (we’re pretty sure she approved!) and made our very own poppy biscuits to help us remember why Remembrance Day is so special.
Mathematics - In maths, we’ve been cracking the code of counting, discovering that when we say a number, it means that many, and the last number we say is how many objects we have. The children have loved exploring this through games, songs and plenty of hands-on fun.
Independent Learning - There have been lots of chances to plan, do and review our own wonderful ideas, from building creations to imaginative role play and everything in between.
Forest School - We enjoy making our own creations outside. We used the colourful leaves to make our own fireworks.
Reception
Mathematics - Our primary focus was on early number sense and spatial reasoning. We consolidated our understanding of numbers up to 10 and specifically practiced representing the number 4 in multiple ways, utilising resources like the 5-frame and Numicon. We reinforced counting skills with an outdoor object hunt (numbers 1-4) and explored various mathematical resources, including 5 and 10 frames. We also developed our spatial awareness by working with Tetrominoes and identifying properties of 2D shapes. We have also been making Christmas paper garlands to develop our pattern knowledge.
Literacy - Our activities centered on word recognition and narrative engagement. We continued practicing tricky words. We participated in creative activities linked to fairy tales, such as painting the Three Little Pigs' houses outdoors using recycled materials and making playdough snacks for Little Red Riding Hood's basket. We also celebrated a love of reading with a visit to the library and a fun book character parade.
