Year 5
French Day - Children enjoyed eating brioche, cheese and many other French foods at the French market this year! Year 5 also enjoyed learning about the French speaking country, Madagascar, and learning about Gisele Rabesahala.
Geography focus week - During the geography focus week the year 5’s learned why some animals are endangered and what we can do to protect them. They specifically choose to raise money for Orangutans to adopt an animal to help to protect them in the wild. To help raise money they had an animal dress up day and did a fun run around Hermit park which some family members participated in and cheered them on. Well done Year 5!
Recital Poetry - Year 5 enjoyed participating in the individual poetry recitals this year. It was great to see the enthusiasm and confidence the children had to perform and share their fantastic poems with the year group!
Prayer Writing - To reflect upon May being the month of Mary, children spent time writing thoughtful prayers to offer to Mary.
Types of changes - In science year 5 has focused on different types of chemical and physical changes that can happen. We have focused on what types of changes are reversible and irreversible and are able to recognise this if they saw it. They also investigated why an irreversible change is an irreversible change through mixing bicarbonate soda and vinegar. They were able to observe the changes and identify why it was an irreversible change.
Year 6
French Day - Salut! Year 6 have enjoyed celebrating French Day for their final time at St Helen’s. They had important roles throughout the day, facilitating and organising the French Market. They had to use their language skills to help the younger children order their delicious French food (and of course tasting some themselves). They also delved deeper into French culture by researching a francophone country, Senegal.
Coastlines - In their geography lessons this term, year 6 have been studying coastal erosion. They have learned about how different types of rock erode and how this impacts our coastal formations. To conclude the unit, they made coastal projects and filmed them using stop-start animation to demonstrate how the sea erodes the coastline.
Music & Drama - Year 6 are busy preparing for their end of year production. In their music lessons, they have been practising and harmonising the songs ready to put on a fabulous show. Join us “For the First Time In Forever” to “Let It Go” in summer! (On Wednesday 2nd July 2025).
In PE this term, year 6 have been preparing for Sports Day by practising their running, sprinting, throwing and jumping skills. We can’t wait to see which team will come out on top and lift the trophy!
