Pre School
The pre-school have enjoyed planting cress seeds and watching them grow which linked really nicely to our focus book on Titch. For our Geography focus project we focused on Turtles, observing how they move and what they look like. The children collaged turtles and moved like their focus animal when they went swimming. The children all really enjoyed the swimming pool experience; developing their confidence in the water. The children have been focusing on learning their colours and their colour recognition skills are developing well.
The pre-schoolers have started our transition plans with the nursery where small groups visit the nursery everyday and we can see the pre-schoolers are integrating well and navigating their new environment confidently.
Nursery
There have been plenty of outdoor play and learning! From exploring nature to engaging in water fun, physical exercise, sports and imaginative play. The joy has been contagious.
We celebrated French Day with songs, stories, and a touch of French flair—ooh là là!
For our Geography Focus Week we dressed up as pandas, learning fun facts about
them highlighting these animals and other endangered animals.
During May, the statue of Our Lady of Grace visited our class so that we could pray and say the Hail Mary to ask for help with our prayers.
In our Maths focus, we have been identifying symmetry in everyday objects and shapes around our classroom.
Reception
In reception this month we have been having lots of fun in the sun and have had lots of celebrations. We are celebrating the Month of Mary and started it off with a procession for which we made flowers. We had a tea party for our literacy story ‘The Tiger who Came to Tea’. We made shopping lists dressed up as tigers and enjoyed eating our tiger themed food outside in the sun. We also made origami and paper plate tigers and had a fundraiser to raise money to adopt our own tiger.
In our RE lessons we have been learning about the Ascension and sharing the good news, we brainstormed ideas about how we can be more like Jesus and what wh think people should know about all the wonderful things he done whilst he was alive.
In maths we have been consolidating our learning by practicing with numicon and weighing objects using newton scales to find out which objects around our classroom are heavy and light. To link our maths to our literacy we measured our size against the size of an adult tiger and found that one tiger is the same length of 3 children.
For geography we map fairies, fairy maps and a fairy garden. We had to build a path for the fairy to get home as it was too windy to fly and the sun made the grass too hot to walk on. Once the fairies made it home we made a fairy campfire and sang a song together.
For phonics we practised our writing outside using chalk and created stories about animals in a zoo and drew our own illustrations. We also practice making letters using small parts such as buttons and sticks.
