Citizenship Debate - Year 6 have been working hard on their debating skills this month in preparation for their annual debate with the year 6 pupils from St Joachim’s School.
St Helen’s were debating the motion: ‘We should prioritise our countries' concerns before international concerns’. The children conducted a lot of research to find evidence and statistics to support their points. They also worked on their oracy skills to be able to verbally put their points across. The children enjoyed meeting up with St Joachim’s and hosting the event, they also shared a playtime together with their friends at St Joachim’s, which allowed them to catch up since their camping trip.
Maths Quiz - On Friday 30th January 2026, 4 children in Year 6 entered into a national Maths quiz competition. The first round of the competition saw over 40 schools compete online in a live quiz, answering 30 questions to see which schools scored the highest.
This was the first year we have entered a team into this competition and the team did amazingly, scoring third place in their heat (Only 50 points behind the first place team). This means that they will progress automatically to the semi finals next month. Good luck to the team for the next round!
