Year 3
Maths Focus Weeks - To start each day the children were engaging with fun number related activities in the soft start. There were card games, board games and number problems. During the weeks the learning in each subject also had links to maths. The children wrote shape poems in English, and Haiku poems which have a set number of syllables in each line. In History the children were challenged to use their rulers to draw stonehenge to set measurements. After intense TTRS battles across the two weeks, it culminated with dressing up and a rockout on the playground.
Music - The children have been working hard continuing practicing their ukulele skills. Learning the chords C, F and G, and also playing a simple ostinato (repeating tune).
Science - The topic this half term has been learning about the different types of rocks and how they are formed. The children enjoyed getting hands on and sorting rocks according to their different properties and researching what uses these lend themselves to. The children also learn what fossils are and how they are formed.
Year 4
Dance & Gymnastics - We have worked hard in our PE lessons to learn new skills and routines for Gym and Dance. In Dance, the children were learning a dance from the movie Wicked.
Art - Our unit this term is Pottery. The children first used playdough to practice making their design. Then they explored pottery artists and Roman pottery. Finally, they created their pieces with the purpose in mind.
Debating - For Citizenship week Year 4 had a class debate about lowering the voting age to 16. 4B were in favour of the argument and 4Y were against the argument. This was a really fun experience as children practiced using their voice and articulating their thoughts.
Descriptions - In English we worked very hard to create vivid and imaginative descriptions.
Maths - In maths we learnt about perimeter. Children decided which measuring tool would help measure classroom objects. Children had to find the perimeter of classroom items. In Maths focus week the children linked their art learning to make repeated patterns on pottery. Children also worked on fractions by using biscuits to show a half and a quarter.
Religion - In Religion children have been learning about how faith can make us lead better lives. We made faith shields using scripture that referred to having a strong faith and its importance.
