Preschool
In the preschool we have been learning about people who help us at home, at school and in wider life. As part of this topic the children have loved dressing up as firemen, police officers and doctors. We then had the focus book ‘How Many Legs’ so we had been doing lots of silhouettes of ourselves and different animals. For the last couple of weeks we have been busy with making pancakes, Lunar New Year role play and Valentines activities to consider the people we love.
Nursery
Funny Bones - We really enjoyed the book - Funny Bones and then exploring skeletons and bones and how they help us to move. We created our own characters too!
Handa's Surprise - Another text the children have enjoyed is Handa’s Surprise and taking part in lots of exciting activities inspired by it. They enjoyed balancing baskets of fruit on their heads, acting out the story, and tasting new fruits from Handa’s basket. We even made delicious fruit kebabs together! The children also learned about where Handa lived in Africa and compared it to where we live in London, helping them to understand different places and cultures in a fun and meaningful way.
Patterns - The children have shown a strong interest in learning about repeating patterns and are independently applying their new skills during child-initiated activities, demonstrating growing confidence and understanding.
Citizenship Focus Weeks - During Citizenship Week, the children have been learning about how we are all unique and special, and that God made no one else exactly like us. We talked about how to look after ourselves and what we need to grow and stay healthy. This learning was extended by exploring what plants and pets need to thrive. A very special highlight was a visit from Shelby the dog and his human brother, Matthew, who came to spend the day with us. Shelby was lots of fun, fluffy, fond of licking, and he especially loved going for walks! It was a memorable and enjoyable day for everyone.
