Year 5
As part of our Black History focus weeks, Year 5 children performed a poem about the achievements of ancient Carthage as well as the bravery shown during the three Punic wars against the Romans.
5B also did an assembly on this which included a traditional African dance.
We roleplayed different online bullying scenarios. We had to discuss what to do if we were in that situation.
We have been learning about the famous graffiti artist, Banksy. We designed our own graffiti tags and spray painted them.
In art we have been looking at Banksy’s/Shamsia Hassani and comparing both artist styles of work and how it impacts society today.
We created our own inspired printed artwork of Banksy’s/Shamsia and linked this to the theme of Carthage.
We roleplayed different scenarios reflecting the Ten Commandments. We showed how a friendship could be spoiled by sin and how we can live good and happy lives by following rules.
In our Science experiment we wanted to investigate how the shadow of an opaque object changes over time. We used an opaque object like a meter stick to put in the middle of the playground so that there were no other opaque objects whose shadows can cover up our meter stick. We checked our findings every hour and took a picture and measured the shadow accurately using a tape measure. We then used a compass to observe how the shadow was moving. The only variable of our experiment is our source of light, which is the Sun.
We enjoyed sharing brightness and happiness on Hello Yellow Day - for Mental Health.
Year 6
Science Investigations - Year 6 have been learning about light and sight. We have been exploring reflection by using mirrors to reflect laser beams onto targets. We have also been conducting some thought experiments to investigate whether we need light to see objects.
Charcoal Art Work - based on Herbert Mason's work
On Hello Yellow Day, year 6 discussed Mental Wellbeing and the importance of speaking to someone when we are feeling down. They enjoyed creating raps, poems and songs to raise awareness of ‘Hello Yellow’ Day and mental wellbeing.
