Year 5
For our History topic Year 5 have been learning about Ancient Carthage and their influence on the modern world. During this time the year 5’s had a chance to be investigators on the subject and find different information about The Punic wars, the Phoenician alphabet, their Army and Navy as well as the Purple Murex shells. They found the information around the classroom and then summarised in their own words to share back with their investigator friends.
The children in year 5 used dictionaries to help them find their favourite sports in French. They played with various sports balls to help them learn key vocabulary.
To link to our street art unit in Art after going to Shoreditch year 5 were inspired by all the Graffiti Tags that were around Shoreditch and used that to help them make their own tag. Using a special website they created their Graffiti tag and copied onto A3 paper using the colours they thought reflected them. Then they cut it up and put it on a wall background they had already made.
For Religion Year 5 have dedicated a week of showing small acts of kindness every single day. This is called the Little Way which was brought to the world by St Therese of Lisieux who believed one small act of kindness can change everything.
Year 6
On Thursday 23rd October we celebrated Cultural Day. In year 6, we enjoyed sharing and learning about each other's cultures, traditional foods as well as some fun facts about our countries!
This half term year 6 have been practising how to give and follow instructions in French. They have worked brilliantly on their pronunciation and confidence speaking aloud using their new phrases such as asseyez-vous and écoutez!
To conclude our Geography unit, we used the Now Press Play headsets to immerse ourselves in the story of the famous eruption of Mount Vesuvius in Pompeii. The children really enjoyed the experience and it helped to consolidate all of their learning this term.
In preparation for our visit to the Imperial War Museum, the children in Year 6 participated in a workshop lesson where they looked at the timeline of WW1 and WW2. The children enjoyed acting out the key events of the wars and understanding how the war affected everyone.
