Nursery
This half term has seen us making the most of the sunny winter days, exploring at Forest school, making mud portraits, cooking with mud and of course best part, having muddy hands.
We also love to bake, so a little experimenting with a pumpkin - the outcome was delicious pumpkin fritters topped with a dusting of sugar. Also on the menu were scones for Grandma from the traditional tale, Little Red Riding Hood.
In maths, we have continued to master our counting skills, find shapes here and there as well as learning about the concept of sorting, sorting objects into different groups.
We have also enjoyed making things in class.
Reception
The children in Reception were learning about Bonfire night and created firework paintings using spin art. They loved the way the colours spread and how pretty they all came out.
We met with our friends in year 4 for our Peer reading session. It was really nice to have our friends read stories with us.
For Remembrance day we paid our respects and said a prayer for the fallen at our school memorial. We also created our own poppies using tissue paper and even made poppy biscuits.
On Kindness Day we chose a friend in our class to nominate and award them with a Kindness Hero medal. We really appreciate our friends and understand we should always be kind and respectful. It's always good to share kindness and show care to all.
For Character Day we came to school dressed up in our special character costumes. We made books and wrote our own stories about our character and even got the chance to share our stories with our class during Storytime at the end of the day.
We have been working really hard on our writing and practise our letter formation everyday. We have been really trying to learn and write all our harder to read and spell words.
We were learning about the story of Little Red Riding Hood in class. On No Pens Day we made cakes for Grandma in the story and created a map of how to get to Grandma’s house through the forest using our imagination and blocks. We used cylinders, cubes, triangular prisms and other shapes as trees, bushes, bridges and even ponds as we built our map. We talked about how we would climb over the bridges, go under the bushes and around the trees as we followed the path to Grandma's house.
In maths we learned about positional language and talked about where things are. We used a box to help us understand how we describe where things are when we talk about them. We are also learning about the number 4 and made tetrominoes. Miss Cascayan showed us a game called Tetris and using cubes we made our own tetrominoes and took turns to try to fit them together as a puzzle, just like the game.
It's been really cold outdoors and we found the water in the garden turned into ice and has become hard. We discussed how it got there and why the water had changed. We investigated how shapes were made in ice but not in the water and how we could pick things up out of water but not in the ice.
Mr Ko has been teaching us about ball skills and how to pass the ball in PE. We are trying really hard to wait our turn and share the equipment. It's always fun to learn new skills in sports!
