Year 5
In Year 5 we enjoyed our workshop with Neal Zetter in which we practised writing Kenning poems and we had a chance to ask him questions about his childhood and work.
In Science we have been learning about forces and we measured the weight and mass of objects in our classroom using Newton metres and scales. We have also learned about levers, created our own ones and tested them in class, which was such great fun!
Year 6
Year 6 have been learning the song You Got a Friend. As part of the structure of the song, they have successfully improvised their own melodies as part of the song’s structure. In this clip, we have children in 6B, showcasing their amazing skills at improvising on glockenspiels. The performance includes two soloists, then the rest of the class all improvising together. Our children are AMAZING and AWESOME musicians!
Year 6 have been learning about how light travels. They used lasers and mirrors to reflect the beam of light to hit the targets around the room. From this they learnt that light travels in straight lines and how light reflects off smooth surfaces at the same angle as the incident ray.
On Thursday 9th February, year 6 took part in an Inter-School debate with St Joachim’s children. They debated the motion “year 5 and 6 children should be allowed in Snapchat groups with their friends”. We heard excellent arguments both for and against the motion and after a democratic vote, the majority agreed with the for arguments.
In preparation for our Shakeapeare topic, we had our annual workshop with the Shakepspeare4Kids company. We enjoyed acting out and learning one of the comedy plays - A Midsummer Night's Dream.
