Year 3
For Let’s Think in English Lessons, we looked at a poem and discussed the best way we could perform it, thinking about the characters’ feelings. We had to decide what message we wanted to share about it. It made us think about how similar young and old people are.
We had an amazing poetry workshop with the poem Neal Zeatter. He read some poems from his new book and inspired us to write our own.
In PSHCE the children were learning the Rights of the child. They all understood A31 ‘You have the right to play and rest’, they were all engaged and had fun outside in the afternoon.
We have been exercising our “Right to play and rest” as part of our PSHCE unit. We enjoyed playing together as a class and understand we all have rights as a child.
In Science, we have been investigating rocks and soils. We used a microscope to look carefully to see a mixture of rocks and organic matter. We also looked at tiny rocks, shells and minerals that make up sand. We have really enjoyed learning about different types of rocks, soils and fossils this half term.
Art Lessons
Year 4
Year 4 have been very busy the last couple of weeks. As part of our Citizenship focus, we went on a Street Art tour around Shoreditch to look at how art can give important messages. Children have also been recreating their own street art in class. And we’ve been debating if the protests by Just Stop Oil and Extinction Rebellion are justified, some children have been chosen to read their debates to the rest of the school.
We were also treated to a performance of Anansi the Spider at the Unicorn Theatre and the children have had a poetry workshop with Neal Zetter to prepare them for studying their Poetry of Protest unit.
In mathematics, some of the children form year 3 and 4 attended an Able Maths day to challenge them to think about number in different ways.
In science, we have been investigating the effects of sugar on tooth decay using eggshell and different types of drinks.
