Starting this year, we will be using a new software called “ClassLink”. This will allow parents and students to log into all of the software that their child may need to use with one username and password. Teachers can link all the websites we will be using into ClassLink so students will not have to remember all their usernames and passwords. Additionally, ClassLink is accessible on any type of device (chromebook, laptop, tablet, and phone). When the student or parent logs in, it will look like a smartphone with apps. Click the “app” (website) that is needed and away you go! Below is a video that further explains this new software too. Please let me know if you have any further questions or comments about ClassLink. This is our first year using this program and I will be learning right along with you. So I do ask that you are patient as I am learning too. But I am very excited for this new software and feel it will be a great improvement for logging into our many sites we will be using.
Above is a video describing ClassLink.
Below is the link to our Sheffield-Sheffield Lake City Schools ClassLink personal page. This is where you will go to log in and have access to your user names and passwords.
Join prepared and on time.
Please mute your microphone when you FIRST log in. (Please unmute your microphone if we call on you to share or ask a question. This will help with overall noise control.)
Sit and stay in one place with your eyes on the screen.
Raise your hand if there is something you want to say. (You can either use the “Raise Hand” feature or raise your hand on screen.)
Phones, toys, and other distractions need to be put away during the meeting. (You may have paper, pencil, pens, dry erase markers, dry erase board, notebook, etc present to take notes and complete work.)
School rules still apply...be safe, be respectful, be responsible, and be a problem solver.
You must be in a public room of your house, like the kitchen, family room, or office.
Mr. Kinser, Miss Demers, and Mrs. Fedak reserve the right to change or alter the rules at any time. Students will be notified of changes, when/if they happen.
In Google Classroom when a student is ready to submit an assignment for grading, the student needs to click “Turn In”. This notifies the teacher the assignment is ready for grading.
If a student would like to fix or redo an assignment, the student needs to click “Unsubmit”. This allows the student to make changes to the assignment. When they are ready to resubmit the assignment, the student will click “Turn In” again. Mrs. Fedak will not officially grade an assignment until after the due date. Mrs. Fedak may look at the assignment and make comments and suggestions prior to the due date.
The “Comments” section of the assignment is very important. This is Mrs. Fedak’s means to communicate with the student about their assignment, and vice versa. Students should be mindful of and check the “Comments” section as they are working. Mrs. Fedak may make comments and suggestions here to students as they are completing the assignment. Two days after a due date, students should check back on the assignment to see any comments Mrs. Fedak has made. This will also be where Mrs. Fedak may make recommendations for redoing and resubmitting the assignment for a higher grade.
Reach out to Mrs. Fedak if you have any questions, comments, or concerns about any part of the assignment. Email Mrs. Fedak at mfedak@sslcs.org or ask your parent/guardian to Remind message Mrs. Fedak.
Mrs. Fedak reserves the right to make changes to this document at any time. Students will be notified immediately, if changes are made.
Q: When are assignments due?
A: Assignments need to be submitted by 11:59 the day they are due. (For example if the assignment is due Friday. The assignment needs to be submitted for grading by Friday at 11:59pm.)
Q: What if I need an extension?
A: If a student needs an extension (additional time) to complete an assignment or project, the student needs to email Mrs. Fedak prior to the due date explaining they need an extension and why. (For example if the assignment is due Friday, the student needs to notify Mrs. Fedak by Thursday that an extension is needed.)
Example email would be:
Mrs. Fedak,
I need an extension on my assignment. We had an unexpected family emergency come up. May I have an extra day or two to complete the assignment? Thank you!
Sincerely, (Student Name)
Q: Do I have the opportunity to redo a graded assignment?
A: Students ALWAYS have the opportunity to redo assignments and projects for higher grades. The cut off date for redoing an assignment or project is two days before the quarter ends. Quarter End Dates are:
October 30 (Last day for resubmission: October 28)
January 21 (Last day for resubmission: January 19)
March 26 (Last day for resubmission: March 24)
June 8 (Last day for resubmission: June 4)
Q: If I would like to redo a graded assignment, what’s the procedure?
A: First, it is the student’s responsibility to email the teacher they will be redoing an assignment for a higher grade. This helps Mrs. Fedak know if she needs to watch for a resubmission.
Example email would be:
Mrs. Fedak,
I will be redoing (assignment title) for a higher grade. I know I can do better and want to show you my best effort. Thank you!
Sincerely, (Student Name)
Second, when a student would like to fix or redo an assignment, the student needs to click “Unsubmit”. This allows the student to make changes to the assignment. Make changes, corrections, or additions to the assignment.
Third, when the student is ready to resubmit the assignment, the student will click “Turn In” again. The student has two days to resubmit an assignment or project for grading. This two-day period starts from the day the student emails Mrs. Fedak. (Example: If the student emails Mrs. Fedak on Monday for a resubmission, the assignment is due on Wednesday by 11:59pm. If a student emails Mrs. Fedak on Thursday for a resubmission, the assignment is due on Saturday by 11:59pm.)
Fourth, the student needs to make a comment in the “Comment” section that their assignment or project is ready for regrading.
Mrs. Fedak will try to provide a rubric with each project so the student may see how the grade will breakdown and how to earn the most points.
Mrs. Fedak will try to grade assignments within two days of the due date so students are able to see how they did on an assignment or project.
Students will submit assignments and projects on time.
Students will check “Comments” section on all assignments to communicate with Mrs. Fedak about their assignments and projects.
Students will communicate with Mrs. Fedak if they have any questions, comments, or concerns. This provides the students with the best opportunity to showcase their best effort and strive for success.
Google Classroom - This will be our online platform where assignments and materials will be posted. Students will need to check this page daily to see what assignments need to be completed. Work that will be posted here will be graded and counted towards the final grade.
Mrs. Fedak’s Google Sites Website - This will be our additional online platform. Mrs. Fedak will be linking Google Classroom assignments to this page under the appropriate content area. Instructional videos will be accessible through this website. Additionally, there will be reference and resource tools, extra materials to reinforce learning, and many other useful tools for the students and parents/guardians.
YouTube - Mrs. Fedak will be linking instructional videos from YouTube to her Google Sites Website. Also, when Mrs. Fedak records a video, it will be uploaded here prior to being linked to her website.
Google Meets - Google Meets is similar to Zoom. There are a couple minor appearance differences and the name. But otherwise Google Meets is relatively the same as Zoom. Google Meets will be our means of communicating via video chats. Your child’s Google Classroom has a predetermined Google Meets link code, which helps to create a more secure connection.
ClassLink - This is a new website the district will be providing this year. This website will store all the usernames and passwords students will need for this school year. (Note: Websites that will be linked to ClassLink will have an asterisk (*) next to them.)
*ReadWorks - Students will be assigned articles to read and answer comprehension questions to check for understanding. Articles will have a read-aloud option available to all students. Questions will not be read-aloud though. (Note: link will be provided via Google Classroom to provide even easier access)
*ReadTheory - Students will be able to work through self-paced, high interest reading passages and talk short quizzes to show their comprehension of their reading. As they read different passages, the program will determine if passages need to be made easier or harder based on their comprehension scores to challenge and foster your child's reading.
*Amplify - Amplify is a self-paced reading and vocabulary practice site that comes with our reading program. Students will be using this site in class to reinforce our reading instructional topics and build vocabulary words/skills.
*Quizlet - This site provides students with the opportunity to practice and review vocabulary words. Mrs. Fedak will make “stacks” and then assign specific stacks for students to practice. Stacks could include vocabulary words for a particular Social Studies chapter, Reading unit, or Greek and Latin Root practice. Students can use practice words through flashcards, quizzes, and games. (Note: link will be provided via Google Classroom and Mrs. Fedak’s Google Sites Website to provide even easier access)
*Nearpod - This website offers an alternative to the traditional PowerPoint approach. creating slideshow presentations with activities embedded in them, signing in with Google account (Sign in with Google), link assignment through Google Classroom so only need to click link ($ - district pays for?) (Note: link will be provided via Google Classroom to provide even easier access)
*Typing.com - Students have used this website in technology in the past. It is a wonderful sit to practice typing skills. Students learn how to line their hands and fingers over the home keys and type. There are videos that are linked throughout the lessons to make this a fun and interactive experience for students. It also relates how typing skills are important in the real world and can help even with touchscreens.
*FlipGrid - Students can record and make videos with their responses to prompts or record themselves completing presentations for classmates to view and the teacher to view/grade. Mrs. Fedak has posted a reference guide for students on the Student Resource Page (bottom of the page) with directions on how to create a FlipGrid video response. (Note: link will be provided via Google Classroom to provide even easier access)
*Epic! - This site offers a plethora of books that can be read online. Books can be found by topic, AR level, or interest area. Books available include but not limited to nonfiction, fiction, graphic novels, comics, and more. Some books offer audio or video format for reading accessibility.
*Boom Cards - Students are able to complete reviews of concepts and topics we have discussed in class. This website offers interactive task cards, an alternative way to complete the task cards we would do in class. Task Cards are just one type of resource we use to practice our concepts and skills in class.
