Technology supports critical thinking, information gathering, and academic success. Drawing upon the Quaker concept of simplicity, we provide collaborative, streamlined systems that are easy to use. Our mission is to guide the SSFS community of learners in becoming caring and intentional users of ideas and information. Our technology systems enable educational goals including collaboration and interdisciplinary inquiry-based learning.
Technology at SSFS is supported by the Information Technology department (IT) and the Inquiry Guides team (IG). The IT department is responsible for the infrastructure of the school: the hardware, systems, and device management that makes learning possible. The IG team is the library and educational technology staff who are responsible for developing, integrating, and managing the educational technology at SSFS. IG provides resources, guidance, and tools for effective use of information in its many forms.

Student Device Requirements
Lower School (PK4 - Grade 5): SSFS provides all the needed school technology like iPads and Chromebooks. All apps and other needed technology will be provided by the school.
Please see Middle School Computer Requirements to understand MS student device requirements. Middle School (Grades 6-8): Middle School students use school-provided Chromebooks. All devices and apps are provided by the school, except for a headset which the family is asked to provide.
Please see Upper School Computer Requirements to understand US student device requirements (Grades 9-12): Our Upper School has a Bring Your Own Device program, also known as "BYOD." All students in the Upper School must have a mobile device available on a daily basis for school work. This device can be a Mac laptop, Windows laptop, or Chromebook. A smart phone is not considered an adequate device for school. Upper School devices are purchased by the family from an outside retailer. SSFS does not facilitate this process, and does not have any arrangements with vendors. It is important to purchase protective carrying cases for student devices, and a service plan for getting the devices repaired should it become damaged. An accidental damage service plan like AppleCare or from a third party such as Worth Avenue is strongly recommended. SSFS does not offer hardware repair services for Upper School student devices (e.g. broken screens or non-functional devices.) The tech department can assist in initial diagnosis and troubleshooting, but the process of all hardware repairs is handled by families.
Loaner Devices
SSFS has a computer loaner program to help students maintain access to schoolwork if their own device is being repaired. A Chromebook or laptop will be loaned to students during the repair cycle. All students have access to this benefit.
