Reading: Core

Select one of the following titles to meet your student's ELA Reading Requirement of approximately 8 learning hours  per week.

Reading programs will  emphasize the five essential components of effective reading instruction: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

🟦  Emergent Reader: Also known as a “Beginner Reader”, an Emergent Reader is usually a term reserved for students who have shown interest in reading but do not yet have the abilities to read independently.

🟧 Transitional Reader: Transitional readers have passed the early stages of reading and are ready for  short chapter books and nonfiction with longer paragraphs. Students are learning to read with phrasing and rely less on illustrations for meaning.

🟩 Probable Reader/Reader: Student is becoming proficient at recognizing many words, both in and out of context. The student spends less time identifying and sounding out words, and more time understanding what was read.
