Students who are playing at an exceptional level on their instrument and who are receiving tuition can be invited to join Stage Band. Students/Parents are also encouraged to express interest in this ensemble and discuss with the director of the ensemble the steps that can be taken on their instrument to reach the level of this ensemble.
The instruments that are available in a stage band include: Vocals, Piano, Guitar, Bass, Mallet Percussion, Drums, as well as the other concert band instrumetns: Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Oboe, Bassoon, Trumpet, Trombone, French Horn, Tuba, Euphonium.
Wednesday 22nd February 2023 (Term 1 Week 4):
In light of the disruption caused by COVID to the Ensembles Program which has been felt for students across all schools in NSW with particular difficulties for our older students, I (David Humphreys) have decided to provide a special opportunity for our elective music students in years 9, 10, 11 & 12.
Rather than force these students into the newly established Ensembles Program where they would be made to learn a new instrument and start from scratch for the sake of fitting into the confines of a more traditional ensemble (Concert Band / String Ensemble), we will run smaller 'Stage Bands' that will be student led and overseen by David Humphreys. Students will form small bands based on what genre they are interested in playing. Students will choose the repertoire. Staff will support them in sourcing sheet music, workshoping some elements of their rehearsals and providing regular performance opportunities.
We will begin 2023 with a Jazz focused Stage Band and a Rock focused Stage Band. These will formally be called: Stage Band (Jazz) and Stage Band (Rock). Pending student interest and numbers these groups may change and adapt throughout the year.
I trust that this exciting new opportunity will enable students to fulfil their commitment that they made when choosing the elective music course.
