The theme of this year’s contest is “LIFE, LIBERTY AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS - Your Voice. Your Story. Your America”. The theme commemorates the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and invites students to reflect on these important principles. Students will choose one of these enduring rights and tell us: (i) why this right was essential in 1776, (ii) how this right impacts them, their family or community today; and (iii) what we should do to protect or improve this right moving forward.
Sonoma State Sonia Kovalevsky High School Mathematics Day on February 21, 2026, hosted by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Sonoma State University. This event celebrates the contributions of women to the field of mathematics, statistics, and data science, and also seeks to inspire the next generation of scholars by showing that math is joyful and relevant. The program will feature hands-on workshops and activities for high school students led by faculty and women in industry, and will conclude with a panel of college students in math-related fields.

The Asian Liver Center at Stanford University 24th Annual Youth Leadership Conference August 5-8, 2026 The Asian Liver Center at Stanford University is the first nonprofit organization in the United States founded specifically to address the high incidence of hepatitis B and liver cancer in the Asian and Pacific Islander (API) community. The Center is dedicated to eradicating hepatitis B through a four-pronged approach known as C.A.R.E. — collaboration, advocacy, research, and education. Students who attend the conference will gain exposure to public health issues, leadership skills, and opportunities to engage with professionals and peers who are passionate about creating positive change in their communities.

Berkeley Big Data BootCamp Big Data at Berkeley is hosting a FREE, 7-week bootcamp where you’ll learn coding fundamentals, statistics, and how to apply data science to real-world problems. Classes are taught in person on Saturday mornings by UC Berkeley students. No prior experience is required. Deadline February 18

Stanford Tri-Valley Clinical Academy The Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley Clinical Academy is a 2-week immersive program tailored to high school students interested in healthcare careers. This year, the program will take place from July 20 to July 31, 2026. The program consists of interactive activities and lectures (for example: heart, lung, and brain dissections, CPR certification, bronchoscopy, ultrasound, and peripheral IV insertion) to expose students to clinical medicine while allowing them to network with Stanford faculty and staff.
Stanford Institutes of Medicine Summer Research Program (SIMR) Deadline to apply: February 21, 2026
SIMR is an 8-week summer research internship program open to current high school juniors and seniors at the time of application. The program consists of hands-on research under the direct guidance of a mentor at a research laboratory within the Stanford Institutes of Medicine. The SIMR program involves 8 areas of research including all 5 Institutes at the Stanford School of Medicine: Immunology (ITI- Immunity, Transplantation and Infection), Cancer Biology, Stem Cell, Neuroscience, Cardiovascular I nstitute and 3 other areas/disciplines of research: Genetics, Bioinformatics, and Bioengineering. There is also a program within SIMR called the SIMR Bioengineering Internship where students work in teams to design and build biomedical prototypes. The same application can be used for both programs.
Lawrence Livermore Labs Biotech Summer Experience Deadline to Apply is February 26, 2026
The LLNL Biotechnology Summer Experience is a two-week program that engages high school students in an authentic research project in molecular biology and bioinformatics. It focuses on the isolation, characterization, and DNA sequence analyses of genes from the duckweed species, Landoltia punctata. Duckweed is a fresh-water aquatic plant that is of interest to the scientific community. High school students are expected to work to isolate and purify plasmid DNA and perform PCR (polymerase chain reactions), restriction digests, and gel electrophoresis. Students analyze gene sequences with the same bioinformatic tools used by scientists worldwide. Students' DNA sequences are submitted for publication in the international DNA repository, Genbank, with each published sequence acknowledging the student by name.
Project Unity Catalyst Academy Deadline to apply is February 20, 2026
Catalyst Academy is Project UNITY’s flagship virtual summer program designed to introduce high school students to the fields of public health, medicine, and digital health through immersive, applied learning. Over the course of this 8-week program, students engage with healthcare leaders, mentors, and peers from across the United States while developing the skills needed to understand and address real-world public health challenges.

Bay Area All Star Scholarship-The Bay Area All-Star Scholarships will be awarded to six successful students residing within the Bay Area’s nine counties. All public high schools within these counties are encouraged to nominate up to four students for this prestigious college award.
