Academic Support
When a student is struggling academically, there is a lot of support offered on campus to help. The first thing a student should always do is reach out directly to his or her teachers for support. They are the best people to assess what a student needs to do to improve.
Student Support Period
Your schedule has a built in 30-minute student support period 4 days per week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday) for students to get extra help from their teachers, attend a workshop, meet with their counselor, or use other campus related tools.
How does it work?
Talk to the teacher, counselor, or other person you hope to see for tutorial to obtain a pass or appointment. You must do this before the desired student support period.
On the day you have scheduled with your teacher, notify your 1st or 2nd period teacher of the appointment. You should be released at the beginning of the student support period after attendance to attend the designated meeting/class.
Tips to make student support work for you
Be prepared and proactive. Do NOT rely on this time to do homework that is due that day.
By completing your homework the night it is assigned, you can use student support the day before it is due for help if you have questions.
If you don't need additional help from any of your teachers, this time is a gift! Use it to get ahead of homework, studying and projects you need to work on.
Learning Labs
Peer tutoring in the Learning Labs is available during Student Support as a resource for any student who is struggling academically and needs a little extra help. Tutors can provide support in a wide range of subjects and can also help with organization or general support with study habits.
How does it work?
Talk to your teacher, counselor, or other adult on campus to ask them to fill out the Learning Lab request form on your behalf. It is preferred that your teacher complete the form as they are best able to say what specific topics are being covered in class.
You will be sent an email from the Academic Leadership advisor to let you know that you were paired with a tutor and where you should go for your session.
On the day you have scheduled with your tutor, notify your Student Support teacher of the appointment. You will be released at the beginning of the student support period after attendance to attend the meeting. Please make sure you bring the necessary study materials to make the session productive.
