- Prepare one of the songs and monologues listed/linked below for your in person audition.
- Practice the choreography video (scroll down the page) and post a video of yourself performing the audition dance using the provided Google Form link by Tuesday, January 29th.
Singing and acting auditions will be performed privately in the CMR. Other students will not be present, you will act and sing for the director, vocal coach and assistant director. The dance audition will be recorded at home and uploaded to the Google Form linked below. They will not be shared with other students.

Please prepare one of the following song selections. Choose the one that best suits your voice and/or is sung by the character you'd most like to play. If you are trying out for roles not listed below or the ensemble, please prepare "Be Our Guest".
It might be a good idea to be familiar with all of the songs as you may be asked to perform another selection of the directors’ choosing.
The guide vocal track is great to use to get familiar with the notes and melody, but performers will need to rehearse singing with the instrumental version for the audition.

Acting Audition Tips
Be seen- cheat your face and body to the audience!
Be heard- project your voice!
Be understood- over enunciate words and speak clearly
Be brave- get into it! We won’t know what you can do if you hold back.
Be animated- these characters are bold- nothing subtle here!
Be original- show us YOUR take on the role, add characterization and flair!
Be confident- present yourself like you believe you are amazing!
Be professional- show politeness to directors, crew and to others auditioning.
Acting Practice Tips
Out LOUD! Really, how else can you practice volume, clarity and character voices. Not just “in your head”.
On your FEET! Use your body. Practice how you’ll use gestures, stance and facial expressions to show character.
In front of a MIRROR! Watch yourself. Sometimes you think you are being “bigger” than you are.
In front of an AUDIENCE! Mom, Dad, brother, sister, friend. Embarrassing? Maybe. But it will be a great indicator of how it will actually feel at auditions.
Trying NEW things! Vary your delivery and character choices each time. Play around. Don’t get settled on your first idea without trying other choices.
Reacting! Don't forget to listen and react when your character is NOT speaking!

Our dance audition choreography will be posted here on Monday, September 21st. Performers must rehearse the choreography and then USE THIS GOOGLE FORM to submit a video of themselves performing the routine before midnight on Tuesday, September 29th.
*The Google Form for submissions will go live on Monday, September 21st. You must be logged into your SRVUSD Google drive account to access the form.
Dance Audition Tips
1. Set Up Your Space & Camera Height: Head-to-toe view required.
Clear the area: Move chairs, rugs, or clutter so you have a safe space to move freely without stepping out of frame.
Position the camera at hip height: Place your phone or camera on a tripod, shelf, or table around waist or hip level. Avoid putting it on the floor pointing up or high up pointing down—this distorts your body shape.
Orientation: Set your device horizontally (landscape mode) or vertically (portrait mode), depending on what keeps your entire body visible as you move left to right.
2. Check Framing, Focus, and Lighting: Make sure you stay crisp and clear.
Test your boundaries: Stand where you plan to dance, then reach your arms high up and step side to side. Check that your head, hands, and feet (head to toe) stay inside the camera frame the entire time.
Lock the focus: Tap and hold your screen on your face/body until you see "AE/AF Lock" (Auto-Exposure / Auto-Focus Lock). This stops the camera from blurring or shifting focus every time you move.
Light your front: Make sure light (a lamp or window) is facing you. Do not stand directly in front of a bright window, or you will turn into a dark silhouette.
3. Set Up Your Guide Video & Music Audio: Clear sound without drowning yourself out.
Play the music externally: Use a second device (a tablet, speaker, or laptop) to play the guide track clearly in the room.
Keep sound balanced: Make sure the music is loud enough for you to stay on beat, but not so loud that it distorts the audio on your recording.
4. Record Your Audition Take: Perform with confidence!
Hit record & slate: Start recording, step back into your frame, stand tall, and state your full name clearly before starting.
Dance with full energy: Perform the choreography as taught in the guide video. Keep your facial expressions lively—the creative team wants to see your character and personality!
Hold the finish: Stay in your final pose for 2–3 seconds before walking over to turn off the camera.
5. Review Your Video Before Submitting: Quick quality check.
Check if your entire body (head, hands, and feet) remained in frame from start to finish.
Verify that you remained in sharp focus throughout the routine.
Confirm the audio track is clear and synced with your movements.
Privacy Note: Your audition video is private and strictly confidential. It will only be reviewed by the Director, Music Director, and Choreographer for casting purposes.
