Immigration Museum - 4/3/24

The Year 5/6 Students attended the Immigration Museum on Monday, March 4th, 2024. We caught the train into the city and got off at Flinders Street Station. We walked to the Immigration Museum and had something to eat.

We were then escorted into a room to learn about the program 'Many Stories'. We learned about a wide variety of Immigrant stories from the 1800's to present day. Each table had a box containing different documents and special objects relating to a particular person. We learned about their story - the person's name, where they came from, why they left home, where they settled in Victoria, what difficulties they faced as well as how they overcame these challenges. The stories were very interesting and each table were given the opportunity to share their story with the rest of the class.

After this, we were able to explore the Immigration Museum with our groups. We were given a Passport each and we had to fill it in as we traveled through the museum.

We then walked over Sandridge Bridge to see the Australians' History Screens. This Bridge celebrates its historic role as a place of arrivals and meetings by recording the Indigenous and immigrant history of Victoria on a series of 128 glass screens.

We ended up at Federation Square to have our lunch and then caught the train back to Mooroolbark.

It was a wonderful way to expand our knowledge on our Inquiry topic about immigration.

Thank you to the parents and staff who attended our excursion.
