Respect the times of silence and avoid talking to others.
We encourage you to join in sharing a prayer, but you also have the right to pass.
Ensure younger children are seated with you.
What a great excursion we had on Friday! The students loved seeing all the Melbourne landmarks that we have been talking about in class. They were awed by St Patrick's Cathedral which smelt like candles and we even heard a "This is the best day in my life!" Many students showed courage and managed fears about elevators, heights and even tall buildings. Some went on a boat for the first time. It is lovely to be able to spend time outside the classroom with children and sometimes see a different side to them.
Many thanks to Mrs Bearman who organised it all and a special thanks to the parents who offered to help and those who came on the day. We really could not manage without your help. Also thanks to Loren Rolls and Racheal Vanderhaar who are some of our amazing support staff. And thanks to Mrs Baker in the office who packs the First Aid bags.
The next two weeks look quiet but its always busy in the classroom!

It has been an anxious and worrying weekend for many in the Montrose area. If your child may need some extra support, please make sure we are aware. Also, please make sure you have seen the email from our Principal sent on Sunday morning.
Please also be aware of the email about booking an appointment for a Student Led Conversation in Week 9. Students are required to attend these interviews with you so they can celebrate their successes.
Thank you to the many students who bought money for Project Compassion on Friday. We also had a few students who lost/dropped/misplaced their Treat Friday coins. Please put money in a safe place- wallet, school bag or lunchbox, not a child's hand.

Students will hold this role for Terms 1 and 2.

Home reading: Students will be bringing home a book to read this week. Teachers have selected a level that should be easy for your child. Please read with your child each night and sign their diary. Some students are reading quite long books now and you may not get the whole book read in one night. Students are welcome to use their own books as readers- especially those reading chapter books. The rule of thumb is: If there are more than 5 words on the first page that they cannot decode, the text may not be suitable for them at this stage. Thank you for supporting your child with this important skill.
What a great start to the year by the Year 1/2 students. They have been working hard at learnig new routines and living up to high expectations! Their behaviour during our Mass was superb and we were very proud of them. There were a lot of tired people on Friday!

Teachers will probably not have time to check emails between 8.00am and 4.00pm. (Sometimes 5.00pm when we have meetings.) If you need to let us know about early pick ups or anything important, please contact the office. They can phone our classrooms or tell us at break times.
All students are encouraged to try out for the SRC (Student Representative Council) if they have not held this role in previous years. You are welcome to help them write a short speech outlining why they would be a good leader and maybe an idea they have to improve our school. We will listen to the speeches and vote on Monday 10th February.
Thank you to those who have already provided a family photo. We would like these by Friday 14th Feb.
Library time is on Monday.
