While students are encouraged to apply during their eighth grade year, it is possible to apply during the ninth and tenth grade year. Ninth and tenth grade applicants should keep the following in mind:
Ninth and tenth grade applicants can only be accepted if they have previously taken enough elligible arts classes to ensure they will be able to meet graduation requirements by the end of their senior year. This includes both the progression of core/required classes and the total number of required CPPA classes.
Eighth grade applicants must:
Have at least a 2.0 GPA
If any arts/music classes have been taken, they must have received a B or higher in those classes. Note: previous arts/music classes are not a requirement for application.
Have at least two recommendation from teachers, preferably arts teachers. If no arts/music classes have been taken, then core teachers are preferred.
If you are a eighth grader interested in applying to the CPPA program, the application will become available on October 28, 2025. When it is open, the link will be provided here.
Here is a link to the SPS specialty program website, where you can find all information regarding the application timeline and process.
Additionally, you may email Michael Camenisch, CPPA Specialist, at michaelcamenisch@spsk12.net to express your interest (though that is not required).
