While students are encouraged to apply during their eighth grade year, it is possible to apply during the ninth and tenth grade year. Ninth and tenth grade applicants should keep the following in mind:
Ninth and tenth grade applicants can only be accepted if they have previously taken enough elligible arts classes to ensure they will be able to meet graduation requirements by the end of their senior year. This includes both the progression of core/required classes and the total number of required CPPA classes.
Ninth grade applicants must:
Tenth grade applicants must meet the same level of GPA requirements, AND have taken at least 1 or 2 years of qualifying progressive content classes (depending on which CPPA track they have chosen to pursue).
By the end of the 10th grade year, all CPPA students must have completed P.E. classes and be on track with their core class progression required for graduation. Those who enter CPPA at the start of their Sophomore or Junior year may have to take summer school in order to meet all graudation requirements, due to their late start in the program and the difficultty of fitting all the required CPPA classes into their schedule. If summer school is not feasible, in some cases that may prevent acceptance or completion of program.
If you are a ninth or tenth grader interested in applying to the CPPA program, email Michael Camenisch, CPPA Specialist at michaelcamenisch@spsk12.net to express your interest. Your transcript will be reviewed to determine if joining the CPPA program is feasible. Once a determination has been made, we will reach out to you via email to let you know what steps are needed to apply.
