Tools for the Classroom

Peardeck Slides Add-on - Create student-paced presentations that students can interact with and you can collect the data. Here is the video tutorial (18:00) Here is a website with more information.

Flipgrid - Short video responses. Hundreds of lesson ideas using this!

Explain Everything - This is probably the most versatile App on the student iPad. Use it for screen recording, a white board, creating video, photo editing, and explaining anything.

Touchcast - Full-bodied App for creating video with Green screen, white board, teleprompter, and other news-casty technology

iMovie - Make trailers and full length videos. iMovie has robust editing tools such as picture-in-picture, side-by-side, speed up, freeze frame, slow motion and more. See this list of advanced editing tutorials and a few challenges to get students started.

Podcasting with Anchor - This super-simple podcasting App is in Self Service. Have your students create audio journals or explore this medium for showing their knowledge and perspectives.

Blogger - reflect with blogs. Start a blog for the first time or add a blog if your students have previously created a blog.

EdPuzzle - Make any video your lesson. Collect student feedback at specific points during the video.

  • Google Hangouts - This is chat, not a Video Meet This handy chat tool allows you to chat with colleagues by clicking their name in a list that lives next to your email inbox. Once you invite or are invited, you're ready to go! Move your chat to the right of your inbox and/or create a group to chat with your whole team. This will reduce texts to your personal phone too!

  • Skitch - Want to just SHOW someone exactly where to look or click? Use Skitch to screen grab, add arrows, blur faces, circle focus points, then simply drag finished image to destination. Here is a quick demo.

  • Trello - Organize your life with drag-able cards. This web based tool allows you to stack cards with information into decks. You can a;sp share pages with students or colleges.

  • YouTube Tips - Link to a specific spot in the video, removing page clutter, and other time-saving tips!

Accessibility

  • Safari Reader View - Shows text in articles without ads, pictures or other distractions. Makes Text size adjustable too!

  • Speech to Text - Use the dictation tool to speak text on to the iPad

  • Text to Speech - Turn on Speak Selection to make the iPad read sections of text out loud.

  • Keyboard Language - Change keyboard language to speak (dictate) or type with any language's characters.
