This course is designed to help students learn how to write original songs, utilizing traditional pen-to-paper, and technology. Beginners, intermediate, and advanced composers are welcome, and the curriculum is tailored to individual skill levels and experience.
Students will:
Develop poetry-writing skills
Develop note reading, music notation, and music theory skills
Learn to write simple melodies, harmonies, and rhythms
Study and music of interest to the student
Create original songs
Periodic assessments of your ability to compose simple melodies, harmonies, and rhythm, depending on the assignment
Periodic assessments of your knowledge and understanding of foundational musical concepts and information
Periodic assessments of basic piano-playing skills
What you need for each class:
A pencil
Your iPad
1.5-inch or larger three-ring binder, with blank paper
Your grade in this class will be based on the following:
Participation, work ethic, and class contributions: 50%
Periodic formative assessments: 30%
Quizzes and tests 20%
